There is something that is definitely need to be said about just taking over at a club in the Midwest. Especially when a well-known, well-respected band that is becoming a major influence in the mainstream rock world does this simply because they want to be on a stage. That’s exactly what Gemini Syndrome did as they rocked Spicoli’s Rockade in Waterloo, Iowa. Local acts High Point, Montra Nova, and The Rumours also had their time to shine on the Spicoli’s stage. High Point was the first band to take the stage.
High Point is a four-piece band out of New Hampton, Iowa. They are composed of Colton Kirby, Bryan Hauser, Michael Bouska, and Ben Larson. They are a band that should not be slept on in the local scene as they offer a unique blend of gritty rock, blues, a bit of funk, and a bit of punk. Their sleek grooves and commanding stage presence showed me that High Point has the potential to be major players in the Midwest scene in the future, and you never know when they are going to catch that break. Check them out on Facebook at www.facebook.com/HighPointBand and you will be able to catch them at the following dates:
Friday, July 21st at Spicoli’s Rockade in Waterloo, Iowa (w/Dead Horse Trauma and VYCES)
Friday, August 11th at Black Hole Fest. Check here for details on the festival.
Saturday, August 26th at The Blackhawk in Prairie du Chein, Wisconsin (w/Veir The Silence)
Friday, September 1st at Iowa Stock Festival at Avenue of the Saints Amphitheater in St. Charles, Iowa
Mossa Nova was the next band to take the stage, then The Rumours followed.
Out of Waterloo, Iowa are The Rumours. The Rumours are composed of Carli Foxx on vocals/rhythm guitar, Ela Rose on bass, Stu The Dew on lead guitar, and Daniel Kluiter on drums. They brought a time machine with them, had the audience step back into their time capsule and they had such sleek grooves, an old-school punk sound mixed with an old-school British 70’s glam rock sound. Daniel brought seamless rhythm into the drums in which he ultimately serves the song when he plays and Carli has such a sex appeal about her when she sings, it’s like she becomes a totally different animal on stage. Through their stage presence, confidence, and punk rock rhythms, I see The Rumours doing very well for themselves in the future. Check out The Rumours at www.facebook.com/TheRumoursBand13. Check out The Rumours at the following tour dates:
Wednesday, July 19th at Fitzgerald’s Live Bar and Music in San Antonio, Texas

Gemini Syndrome were the last band to take the stage.
Gemini Syndrome drove three days for this show as they were heading up for the nationally known festival known as Rock Fest up in Cadott, Wisconsin. Gemini Syndrome brings such uniqueness into their vision and into the band as a whole which gives the audience something completely different and that is their sleek guitar harmonics, the atmospheric vocals of Aaron Nordstrom, and their rhythms that will groove the audience to death. There is such a commanding stage presence about this band as they tore through the hour long set with cuts from “Memento Mori” and “Pleasure and Pain” is such a memorable concert opener for the band. The audience left with their palates satisfied and their thirst for Gemini Syndrome quenched.
