Editor’s Note: Out of Denmark, The Interbeing is ready to conquer Europe, America, and the rest of the world with their incredible album “Among The Amorphous”, which includes their amazing single, “Pinnacle Of The Strain”. Jacob Hansen, bassist of The Interbeing, sat down with Madness To Creation to discuss their new album, Lars Ulrich, Volbeat, amongst other things. Go pick up a copy of “Among The Amorphous” when you get a chance. Here is my conversation with Jacob Hansen of The Interbeing.
M.T.C.: Thank you for taking the time to interview with me for Madness To Creation, tell us who you are and how you got started in the band?
Jacob: Sure, you’re welcome. We are The Interbeing from Denmark and we formed in 2006. We wanted to create metal music with a very strong ambiance and a thematic concept. All the songs are written with The Interbeing as the main character. We wrote the demo Perceptual Confusion in 2009 and with the release of our debut album Edge of the Obscure in 2011 we felt a strong and positive reception. We toured in several countries and with some great bands and in 2013 we started to write our 2nd album “Among the Amorphous”, which was released June 23rd this year.
M.T.C.: Band is very popular in Denmark, tell us what the music scene is like over Denmark and the music culture?
Jacob: I am not sure that we are very popular in Denmark but within the metal genre we probably do have a recognizable name. The music scene in Denmark right now is flourishing. A lot of really talented bands with very different styles are moving strongly ahead. It is a pleasure to be a part of the scene right now and we’re extremely happy to be back.
M.T.C.: I must ask if you know Lars Ulrich from Metallica and Volbeat.
Jacob: We have met the crew from Volbeat a couple of times but I don’t think they know who we are. *laughs* We have never met Metallica though but we most certainly would like to.
M.T.C.: I love “Among The Amorphous”, I love the sci-fi fantasy conceptual themes out of the record. What does a day in the writing process look like for The Interbeing?
Jacob: Thanks a lot. Our writing process is extremely multi-layered. We always start with the basics such as cool riffs or groovy drum patterns. Then we structure the songs. After that we create the ambiance through the electronics. And lastly I write the lyrics and combine the themes.
M.T.C.: Tell us about the music video that you all released for “Pinnacle Of The Strain”, what is that song talking about and what are some of the concepts in regards to the music video?
Jacob: The song on the album has a clear function regarding the story. The Interbeing reassembles himself after being purged and cast aside by his creators. He becomes whole again and realizes that he is stronger than before. This is symbolized in the video which shows a dystopian world where human limbs join together to create a colony. The fragments assemble and create a whole which is much stronger than the fragment itself. We were really impressed with Floris Kaayk’s material.

M.T.C.: You all had a couple of songs for a Japanese video game, I didn’t see the name of the game in the bio that I read about The Interbeing, what game was it for, and how has the Japanese market treated The Interbeing?
Jacob: Yes, we had Pulse within the Paradox and Celestial Flames used for a game called HEAT on slot gaming machines.. The Japanese market has been really great. We didn’t really know the impact of our former release or how it was received before we played there last year which was an amazing experience.
M.T.C.: What was it like playing in Japan, favorite memory from playing over in Japan?
Jacob: It was one of our best experiences as a band. Tokyo is an amazing city and the people were so supportive. The fans were waiting outside with albums to sign and the venue was packed with the coolest people. My favorite memory was definitely at the last moment of the show where we could feel the energy and the peak of the concert and the adrenaline. To know that we played a really good show for the first time in Tokyo and to feel the energy that the people gave back was incredible.
M.T.C.: What else would you like to add about “Among The Amorphous”, and what can fans expect from The Interbeing?
Jacob: We have put our souls and flesh and blood into this album for the last 4 years. It is definitely the best work we have done so far and fans can expect a completed album with hard-hitting songs and sinister soundscapes with a dystopian narrative.
M.T.C.: Plans in support of the album?
Jacob: Yes, right now things are cooking well. A lot of tour dates are being planned during this fall and spring next year and we’ll announce it all once everything is in place. Keep an eye out.
