Head out on a “Surfin’ Safari” with AXS TV as the network keeps the summer fun going with a Labor Day Beach Boys block on Monday, September 4, starting at 10aE/7aP as Beach Boys co-founder Mike Love sits down with Dan Rather to discuss his run-in with infamous cult leader Charles Manson, his study of Transcendental Meditation, and the creative process behind some of the band’s biggest hits on THE BIG INTERVIEW.
The day continues at 11:15aE with an in-depth examination of the band’s tremendous impact and enduring legacy in the 2016 music profile special ROCK LEGENDS: THE BEACH BOYS, followed by a trio of unforgettable concerts at 11:45aE kicking off with THE BEACH BOYS 50 – LIVE IN CONCERT, filmed during the band’s landmark 50TH Anniversary tour as they take the stage in Phoenix, AZ to play 21 timeless tunes including “Good Vibrations,” California Girls,” and “Fun Fun Fun,” among many others.
Then, at 1pE, the 1985 concert documentary THE BEACH BOYS: AN AMERICAN BAND compiles intimate home and archived footage, as well as clips of classic concerts and TV appearances, to tell the story of the Beach Boys from the band’s inception up to Dennis Wilson’s tragic death in 1983. And go behind the scenes with the band as they record their first album of new material in 20 years, embark on their emotional 50th Anniversary reunion tour, and reflect on their extraordinary career in the intimate 2012 documentary THE BEACH BOYS 50: DOIN’ IT AGAIN at 3pE.
The block comes to a close at 4pE, with THE BEACH BOYS: AN AMERICAN FAMILY, the 2000 miniseries that takes a controversial look at the Wilson Family’s relationship, and recreates some of the most defining moments in the band’s unparalleled rise to superstardom. The film was nominated for three Primetime EMMYS® and stars Frederick Weller, Matt Letscher, Nick Stabile, Ned Vaughn, and Ryan Northcott as The Beach Boys.
