I am loving this new rock movement where it is simply as raw as a slaughterhouse, as bloody as a stuck pig, and where it is about the rock! Bands like Greta Van Fleet and Royal Blood immediately come to mind, now add Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown to the list. The band that opened for AC/DC on the “Rock Or Bust” world tour in 2013 to also sharing the stage with the likes of Aerosmith, ZZTop, Deep Purple, Guns ‘N’ Roses, and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers have released their self-titled record via Snakefarm/Spinefarm Records.
The guitar grooves and the harmonies are raw and chocked full of soul upon immediate listen with the track entitled “Heartland”. This is a banged up way of opening up the record! It pays homage to their hometown of Nashville while showcasing the throwback harmonies and killer rock grooves that made classic rock great in the first place. “Don’t Mind The Blood” immediately has what rock is needed in the first place, and that is intense, yet absolutely showroom sleek grooves in the riffs and singing about the rock-n-roll lifestyle.
Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown immediately showcases their musicianship, blues, harmony, and soul in tracks such as “Jealous Me”, which has a psychedelic feel from an acid trip in the harmonies with Stevie Ray Vaughan type of guitar talking throughout the song. This is also evident in the blues/country fried steak track “Ramblin’ Bones” where the storytelling in rock is back about life on the road in Memphis, along with the album closer “Into The Black”.
Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown’s ultimate objective in their music is not to get some political statement or some conservative or liberal agenda out. Their objective is to rock and to let the music set you free, and Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown certainly accomplish that feat with their sleek riffs, groovetastic rhythm section, and by simply injecting the rock-n-roll spirit back into the music! Do not sleep on this record! 9 out of 10 effort!
