Editor’s Note: I can’t begin to tell you my obsession with Louisville, Kentucky’s own FLOODS! It is the premier band to either dance to or completely chill out to, it could fit in a club scene or that after-hours party. I’m DEMANDING TO YOU to get the album! Recently, we sat down with guitarist Sam Stamper of FLOODS to talk about their killer record entitled “Badtimes”, moments that make them high, and just life! Check out FLOODS at the following locations:
Madness To Creation: Tell us about the writing process of a FLOODS song!
Sam: Our writing process is pretty much us locking ourselves in a room filled with cats and jamming some ideas. Then we will find a cool synth tone and build off of that. Jake and Emily program synths and Sam will add guitars.
Madness To Creation: Your single most biggest reason why you got into music?
Sam: We’ve always been surrounded by music and it’s something that makes us happy. We love being able to share stories and connect with people.
Madness To Creation: What does music do to you?
Sam: Music is a great way to express emotions and connect with artists.
Madness To Creation: I love the music video to “Feel So High”, tell us about the song and the making of the music video.
Sam: The song “Feel So High” is about when someone gives you a euphoric kind of feeling and you’re almost addicted to being around them. For the music video, we wanted something that looked trippy and made you feel out of your head, like how that person makes you feel.
Madness To Creation: What is your favorite moment of 2018 so far?
Sam: Favorite moment of 2018 so far has been a toss up between Fergie’s National Anthem and releasing the album. It’s been cool seeing the feedback and getting reactions from people who are hearing the music for the first time.
Madness To Creation: What can fans expect from “Badtimes”?
Sam: We wanted Badtimes to be an album that you can dance to or chill out to. We tried to make something that combines synths, ambient guitars, and melodic pop beats that you can chill out and listen to in your car with friends.
Madness To Creation: What are some things that make you feel so high?
Sam: Finding a really good song – Good days – Hanging out together and writing music – Being in a city at night – Cats sitting in our lap – Taking socks off and putting them under a blanket – Not wearing socks at all – Taking off wet clothes after sledding and sitting by a fire – Listening to Mr 305/Worldwide – Watching Babe
Madness To Creation: What are some plans to promote “Badtimes”?
Sam: We have tour plans coming up for later in the year and we’re releasing new videos, stripped down versions of songs, and tons of new content.
Madness To Creation: Message to the fans.
Sam: Thanks for all of the positive response to our album and we’re so happy to finally be hitting the road and sharing our music with you!
