An artist that has the desire to take pieces of nostalgia and give it a contemporary twist would be how Micky James would most accurately describe his single entitled “Give It To Me Straight”.  Earlier this year, Micky James released this single, which was featured on Billboard Magazine.

Out of New York City, Micky James expressed the desire for this nostalgia and incorporate some glam, some rock & roll, and some raw passion and pure essence into the music.  Influenced by the likes of David Bowie and The Clash, Micky James worked with producers Shep Goodman and Aaron Accetta(American Authors) in order to produce this gem of a track.

From a lyrical standpoint, the content is playful and can be taken with a mix of cynicism and a tongue-in-cheek style.  From an arrangement standpoint, it certainly takes the listener back to the early days where the glam rock sounds of The Sweet and David Bowie were taking over mixed with the snarky ways of The Sex Pistols and The Clash, while sounding fresh out of the oven.

Nostalgia and quality songwriting are becoming at the forefront in mainstream music once again thanks to the efforts of Greta Van Fleet, Curtis Stapleton, and now, Micky James.  This single certainly whets the palette and it makes the listener anxious to see what is in store in Micky James’ career.  Madness To Creation gives this a solid 8 out of 10 stars for this effort.
