The hardcore/metal world got even more psychotic, painful, and brutal. Here comes five-piece band Vein with their release of “errorzone” via Closed Casket Activities.
This album offers no mercy, no compassion, and it absolutely takes no prisoners in a metal world where the arrangements are more formula based, where the lyrics tend to be watered down, and the music and personas itself are completely predictable. Vein can be described as the “honey badger” of the metal world, they just don’t care, and they even offer up a middle finger to your feelings and to the critics.
The album starts off with their first single entitled “virus://vibrance”. There are no breaks to be had as this track offers sick breakdowns that do nothing but snap necks and cause hemorrhaging in the brain from the whiplash that is involuntarily induced to one’s helpless soul. The next track “old data in a dead machine” offers absolutely crushing breakdowns, but there are small bits of clean vocals that add to the dynamics of Vein, and I love the industrial drumming that breaks down that adds to the apocalyptic chaos in the track.
Vein does something that is quite difficult in the world of hardcore music, and they are able to tell a story in a song that barely clocks in at one minute long, and that is with the track “anesthesia”. If you want a taste of what the end of the world sounds like listen to this track. The track sounds like a freaking nightmare as they hauntingly proclaim “I don’t want to be like this” repeatedly. In a round about way, it’s a positive track that seems to talk about the opioid crisis in America. The track “doomtech” seems to tell the story about our addiction to our electronics, as the track sounds somewhat atmospheric during the chorus while sounding apocalyptic in the same token.
With “errorzone”, Vein has made their mark on the hardcore/metal scene with bone crushing breakdowns, no regard for life in the vocals, while the arrangements are merciless. Because of this, Madness To Creation rates this an 8 out of 10 stars as we remind you to pay attention to Vein. Check out the track listing below.
