It is certainly not often that a band that you hear for the first time immediately grabs your attention.  South Wales’ Dream State has done that and caused the world over to take notice with their EP entitled “Recovery”, which was released this past May via UNFD.

This EP boasts one of the best vocalists I have ever heard in metal or any of the subgenres of metal in CJ.  She has a mix of former Flyleaf frontwoman Lacey Sturm, with the passion of Hayley Williams of Paramore mixed with screams that she seamlessly blends with her passionate vocals.  The guitar riffs are mixed with bone shattering riffs and atmospheric harmonics that blend in seamlessly and intricately with each measure of the song.  The rhythm section provides for sleek transitions and progressions that make the music flow ever so smoothly.

In terms of lyrical content, Dream State is bound and determined to help you get through your own personal crisis in your life.  In the song “New Waves”, CJ states that sometimes we have to fight our battles alone, but wanting us to hang on to that inner voice to guide us through the trials and tribulations of life.  Dream State tackles the issue of mental health in “In This Hell” which can be spurned on by a broken relationship.  In this song, Dream State makes it feel powerful and relevant while the listener can certainly resonate with the song.

I don’t say this lightly.  Dream State is groundbreaking and they are a special band.  I’m talking about a band that moves you to tears while having you rock out at the same time.  This generation has been waiting on a band like Dream State to come along for a long time, and if there is much power in this EP, imagine what they will do with a full-length release.  “Recovery” stirs the soul while leaving listeners in a hot mess, Madness To Creation gives this the ever rare 10 out of 10 rating.  Here is the track listing.

  1.  White Lies
  2.  In This Hell
  3.  Help Myself
  4.  Solace
  5.  New Waves
