Recently, Lebanon, Pennsylvania’s own Alex Stanilla released his EP entitled “Neotenic” via Spotify, Soundcloud, and Bandcamp.  Take all the conventions and convenience of pop music and add some chemicals from the maddest scientist and you get an implosion of chaotic pop noise that Alex Stanilla provides in “Neotenic”.

In this effort, Alex blends an eclectic mix of digital and analog instruments to create this music that is not for the conventional and not for those that just listen to whatever is fed through them via the radio airwaves.  “Neotenic” starts off with the track “N.G.U.O.Y.”.  The track has a snappy beat, which causes it to be catchy.  In the same token, the song sounds like the comedown during an afterparty after an all night bender.  The guitar licks offered during the instrumental break are tasty and flows nicely with the music.

In the track “24”, it sounds influenced by Sean Lennon in terms of what I’m going to call “nightmare pop”.  It has a 60’s psychedelic vibe to it, while the drum track intertwined with the guitar lulls the person into a daydream state.

Overall, this record isn’t for everyone.  It is not for the person that just listens to whatever is fed to them on the radio.  However, this record is for the person that looks for art and experimentation, with a whole lot of unconventional arrangements in their indie-pop music, which makes this a whimsical and enjoyable listen.  Madness To Creation gives “Neotenic” by Alex Stanilla a 7 out of 10 stars.  Check out the track listing below.
