We were recently reached out to review the video and single for “Supreme Truth” by Seattle’s Spirit Award.  Spirit Award, who are an indie-rock band, is slated to released “Muted Crowd” on October 19th.  After viewing this video, it was definitely an interesting video to watch.

Spirit Award is formed from the ashes of Pomegranates and consists of a member of Zoolab.  They combine spacey guitar riffs, with elements of psychedelic and a bit of 80’s pop ala groups like Modern English and early U2.  Thematically, this song and video takes on a completely different take.

With cathartic vocals and psychedelic guitar riffs, Spirit Award takes you through the bizarre story of Shoko Asahara, who led the Japanese death cult “Aum Shinrikyo” to the 1995 sarin attack on the Tokyo subway system.  Spirit Award takes this concept and makes the concept into a sociological case study on cults and extreme religious institutions.

Visually, the song looks like a backdrop of the backcountry of America with frames of mountains, bikers and a hideaway within the woods.  Everyone in the video proceeds to wear white and it certainly has psychedelic elements as the people in the video proceed to pick daisies and throw the daisies into a stream.  Everything looks like its a paradise, then the outro of the video showcases them around a bonfire appearing to conduct some sort of ritual.

The guitar riffs, the cathartic vocals, and the rhythm makes this into a quality song that combines that 80’s pop rock with those psychedelic vibes of the 60’s and 70’s.  It’s an enjoyable listen and due to the mysterious nature of the song and band, “Supreme Truth” makes me want to hear more from Spirit Award as I have that feeling that there are multiple layers to unpack.  Based on the nature of the arrangements and the vibes in the song, I give this a 7.5 out of 10 stars.
