On September 21, Nashville P***y released their seventh studio album Pleased to Eat You via earMUSIC. The band, originally formed in 1997, consists of vocalist Blaine Cartwright, guitarist Ruyter Suys, bassist Bonnie Buitrago, and drummer Ben Thomas. For those not familiar with NP’s previous work, it was described to me as “Good, ‘ol fashioned, dirty Southern rock” and that description is more than apt!
NP gives the listener their best from the beginning as the two best tracks on this album are the first two songs: “She Keeps me Coming” and “We Want a War”. The opening riff of “She Keeps Me Coming” serves as an instant draw into the band’s sound and work on Pleased to Eat You. It’s a short but blistering song full of raw energy and a great exemplification of the band’s sound. The second track is actually the first release off the album. “We Want a War” possesses a slower pace than the opening song but also a catchier message and chorus that stick with the listener. Cartwright’s passionate voice carries the message through as he wails “We want a war right now” throughout the song; this track is a perfect rebellion track that is very representative of the band’s career!
The rest of the album after these two opening tracks is also very solid. Per NP’s writing style most of the songs serve as short bursts of energy (at 4:22 “Endless Ride” is the longest track) and sound exactly like what one would expect out of NP: a true Southern-Rock style band out to have a good time! I give this album a very solid 7/10 stars!
