Editor’s Note:  It was a blustery night in Des Moines as Doyle finished throwing down at Vaudeville Mews in front of a packed house.  You could tell that Doyle was in a relaxed mood and that he has a new dog in tow as well.  Long story short, I believe his dog tried to hump my arm.  They are in the process of wrapping up 2018 and the “As We Die” North American tour, which ends on Thursday, January 3rd in Brooklyn, New York.  Fans can find Doyle at the following locations:

Madness To Creation:  What’s up Doyle?

Doyle:  How are you doing?  Did you bring us some pizza?

Madness To Creation:  Yeah it has some veggies, vegan cheese and a gluten-free crust!

Alex Story:  You can stay!  *Doyle laughs*

Madness To Creation:  How did the show go tonight?

Doyle:  It was good!

Madness To Creation:  What has been the craziest moment on this tour?

Doyle:  My dog humping the other interviewers!

Alex:  She literally raped the guy that was trying to hold the camera.  It was awesome!

Madness To Creation:  Oh really?

Alex:  Yeah, she was rubbing the sugar smackdown.

Doyle:  Giving the bean!

Madness To Creation:  How long have you had the dog?

Alex:  She’s three years old but this is her first tour with us.

Doyle:  Where’s this pizza from?

Madness To Creation:  Blaze Pizza in Des Moines.  They fire up the crust.  How long have you been vegan?

Doyle:  Six years.

Madness To Creation:  What started with that?

Doyle:  My girlfriend is vegan and all I eat is vegan food.

Madness To Creation:  What are some of your favorite vegan dishes to throw down on?

Doyle:  I like anything Italian, all of that good shit.

Madness To Creation:  Are you vegan too Alex?

Alex:  I am mostly vegetarian, but like vegan, but I wear leather and stuff.

Madness To Creation:  Tell us about your collaboration with Randy of Lamb of God and your girlfriend of Arch Enemy.

Doyle:  Yeah, it was really easy, I let everybody do what they do, and that’s what they did, I didn’t have to tell them anything.

Madness To Creation:  What is something about Randy and Alissa that blow your mind when it comes to how they approach music?

Doyle:  When you listen to the middle of the song, like that ghostly shit she did, she wanted something creepy, spooky, and angelic, and first take, I was like “yeah!, that’s exactly right”!  *laughs*  She was like, “let me throw some harmonies on there, and she just bashed it out”, and Randy came in and said, “what do you want me to do”, and I said “I’ll just be over here playing on my phone, do what you do” *laughs*, I’m like, you’re Randy, that’s why you’re here.  But the solo for “Kiss Me As We Die”, I’m trying to write a solo for that song and I got the same first note, I couldn’t go anywhere on it, I was inspired by the way Mike Arnott was playing it, and he texts me while I’m doing it and says, “save me a spot on the record” for the solo, and I’m like “great, it’s going to sound just great”, and I said, “I want it slow and epic”.

Madness To Creation:  Tell me your favorite Lamb Of God and Arch Enemy tracks.

Doyle:  The Lamb Of God tracks I don’t know the names of because they are on my phone, but I have every Slipknot record, but I can’t tell you the name of one song.  Back when you had albums, you looked at it, now you don’t look at it.

Madness To Creation:  To me that’s what kind of sucks about today’s music.

Doyle:  Exactly!  And that’s why we make the vinyl that you can open up and look at it, like when you were a kid ya know?

Madness To Creation:  Do you have a big vinyl collection?

Doyle:  Whatever we got in the merch.

Madness To Creation:  I wasn’t sure if you collected vinyl.

Doyle:  I collect ex-wives.

Madness To Creation:  How many of those do you have?

Doyle:  Too many!

Madness To Creation:  Your tour ends on January 3rd, what do you want to accomplish on this tour that you have yet to accomplish?

Doyle:  Just make it through! *laughs*  Get the fuck out of the cold!

Madness To Creation:  Good thing you guys aren’t here this weekend, they’re talking up to 19 inches of snow.

Doyle:  Fuck that!  That’s a snow day for me as a kid!

Madness To Creation:  As a musician, what do you want to accomplish on the guitar?

Doyle:  A hit song.  That way I can have the house where I want it, that dog, that pool, the ocean.

Madness To Creation:  Take all the vacations you want.

Doyle:  This is vacation!

Alex:  Like David Lee Roth, permanent vacation.

Madness To Creation:  I like working out, what working out do you like to do?

Doyle:  I use Powerblox dumbbells.

Alex:  I do chronic masturbation, I do it every chance I get, if you look away for a minute, I’ll beat one out real quick, and it f******* keeps me toned and lean.

Madness To Creation:  I can step away *laughs*

Doyle:  Nah, you can stay! *laughs*

Madness To Creation:  Tell us one artist/band that you’re spinning at this moment.

Alex:  Cancerslug, world’s greatest rock and roll band.

Doyle:  I put my phone on shuffle and Cancerslug comes up three in a row all the time, and I’m like, “what is this”?  I just put it on shuffle.  I just like having it on all the time.

Madness To Creation:  Do you have a wide range you listen to?

Doyle:  A to Z man!

Madness To Creation:  What are a few artists that would surprise others that you listen to?

Doyle:  Nothing surprises me.  Here’s my phone and I’ll tell ya.

Alex:  Cancerslug is coming out with a new album called “Beating A Dead Whore”, it’s the greatest rock and roll album ever written.

Madness To Creation:  Doing some touring with Cancerslug in 2019?

Alex:  2019 is the 20th anniversary, so we have some plans to tour, and we will see how it goes.

Madness To Creation:  Biggest difference having to sing for Cancerslug as opposed to Doyle?

Alex:  Doyle is a little more thrash and Cancerslug is a little bit more punk and a little bit more rock n roll, there’s really no big difference other than a slight variation of how I sing and approach the songs.  I think Doyle is a little bit more of a theatrical band, if we had our way, we would have all kinds of props and crazy shit, like we would really f****** go all out.

Madness To Creation:  What kind of props would you guys have on stage?

Doyle:  Nothing that would surprise you.

Alex:  We would have a f****** castle with a kingdom and a f****** moat.’=

Madness To Creation:  Get some of those Ancient Roman aqueducts.

Doyle:  Hell yeah!

Alex:  Yeah we’ve been to the Roman Coliseum.

Madness To Creation:  Favorite place ever?

Doyle:  I don’t know but it was pretty cool!  I liked Japan.

Alex:  St. Petersburg, Russia was so cool, they all look like aliens, they don’t even look human, all the women there are really f****** gorgeous, they’re the most beautiful human beings I have ever seen.  They make you feel like a f****** troll.

Doyle:  Those mail-order brides! *laughs*

Madness To Creation:  Couple random questions based on your song titles.  What is something that makes you “Run For Your Life”?

Doyle:  Nothing man.

Alex: IRS.

Madness To Creation:  What’s your mentality when you go on stage?

Doyle:  Just gotta do it man, if the crowd sucks just gotta push yourself and ride it out.

Madness To Creation:  Anything that annoys you about today’s crowds as opposed to years ago?

Doyle:  They are really quiet today.  They’re focused on their phones, it’s like nobody wants to get into it, we gotta go to other countries for people to get into it.

Alex:  After the song is over, it’s crickets, but after the show is over people are like, “That was the greatest show I have ever seen in my life”.

Doyle:  But they act as if they f****** hate it.

Madness To Creation:  Doyle now that you finished that pizza, on a scale of 1 to 10 what would you rate the pizza?

Doyle:  2.  Pizza is like p**** you gotta finish it.  It’s better in New York and Jersey.

Alex:  It’s crazy that they have a Chinese pizza joint over here.  It doesn’t make sense.

Doyle:  There’s an old saying, pizza is like p****, no matter how bad it is, you gotta finish it.

Madness To Creation:  What are some plans for 2019?

Doyle:  Plans aren’t made yet.

Madness To Creation:  Is it easier or more difficult?

Doyle:  You have to get a really good booking agent, they’ll take care of that if they’re good.

Madness To Creation:  Anything else you guys want to add in regards to Doyle?

Alex:  Cars, beautiful homes.

Doyle:  Bank account would be really cool.

Madness To Creation:  Thanks so much for the time guys!

Doyle:  Thanks for being cool and thanks for the pizza!
