Editor’s Note:  I want to personally thank Becky Kovach of Big Picture Media for being a part of this fun project that have worked on.  We had some students that helped take part in the questions for her and Becky was so gracious for taking the time out for us.  Big Picture Media is a public relations firm based out of New York City that has probably the broadest range of artists and events that they cover out of any PR firm.  It ranges from punk acts such as Bayside to up and comers such as Young Culture, and they’ve delved into the world of movie soundtracks and major events such as a Coffee Festival and free concerts in New York City.  Big Picture Media also covered the Vans Warped Tour the past couple of years.  Fans can find and learn about Big Picture Media at the following locations:

Madness To Creation:  For the students, what does a public relations agent do?  Tell us about a day in the life of a public relations agent.

Becky:  Well, a public relations agent gets their clients out in the public.  It ranges from pushing reviews for album releases, getting them interviews while they are out on tour, or getting premieres for them for album streams and music videos.

Madness To Creation:  What is the toughest aspect about the job?

Becky:  It is a 24/7 kind of job.  In a typical day, I answer about 400 to 500 emails per day, which can range from confirming premieres, getting artists interviews, and I am around in case if something isn’t going right between a venue and a publication.  There really isn’t any down time.

Madness To Creation:  So it’s not this glamorous job?

Becky:  Definitely not.  People think that it’s all glamorous, but I literally sit at my computer answering emails and on the phone with clients and publications.

Madness To Creation:  What’s the most rewarding part about the job?

Becky:  When a client tells me that they have never dreamt to be on these major publications or on these major tours, when they appreciate all that we do for them.  Plus, we have a team that works together for Big Picture Media and we divide up our clients based on the ones that we are passionate about and clients that we believe in.  It makes the job so much easier when you want to tell everyone about a client that you love as well.

Madness To Creation:  Favorite band that you’re working with?

Becky:  If I had to pick one, I would say Bayside.  I was such a fan of them growing up, their music got me through my high school and college years, and it is such an honor to be working with them on their upcoming acoustic tour.

Madness To Creation:  One band that you want us to check out right now.

Becky:  Definitely Young Culture. They are so catchy and they mix different genres of music that will appeal to a wide audience.

Madness To Creation:  This was so much fun!  Thanks for taking a few minutes out of your day, we’ll let you get back to work.

Becky:  Thank you so much and if you need anything, shoot me an email!
