Editor’s Note: The Cavalera lineage goes back to the days of Sepultura and Soulfly. Richie Cavalera is bound and determined to carve out his own niche while staying true to his roots with his intense metal band Incite. Incite recently released their critically acclaimed album “Built To Destroy” and just wrapped up their tour providing support for Soulfly and Kataklysm. We sat down with Richie to discuss anything from changing the world to Ace Ventura to Donald Trump in a moshpit! Fans can find Incite at the following locations:

Madness To Creation: You have wrapped up your tour with Soulfly and Kataklysm! What was the craziest memory while on that tour?
Richie: I’d say when we got caught in a blizzard in the mountains in Oregon! A huge tree fell on our van while we were driving crushing our front windshield, we drove 30 miles like Ace Ventura with our heads out the window to see the road, after getting stuck in the snow a few times, we finally made it to a town, where we left the van and got a rental car. Then, we drove 500 miles to the show, pulled up and walked right onto stage. It was probably the craziest tour time I’ve ever had in 20 years of touring. Glad to be alive!
Madness To Creation: What was the biggest thing that you learned on this tour?
Richie: That new things will still come your way even after 20 years of touring. It’s never predictable and never goes the way you plan that’s for damn sure! This tour especially woke me up to that realization.
Madness To Creation: What is your proudest achievement after releasing “Built To Destroy”?
Richie: Just the release itself! I’m sure no one imagined Incite would be here, but here we are five albums later and growing bigger with each release. This one feels like it put all the metal world on notice of what this band is doing. I’m so proud of this record and everything this band has accomplished. It’s killer to know that hard work can still pay off!
Madness To Creation: Take us into the recently released music video for “Resistance”, what was the fun part about making the music video?
Richie: I think working with the crew we had and the director was hella fun! Tommy Jones is a killer on the camera and a great dude to work with. But the video was kind of intense and fucked up. Seeing all the homeless towns on the streets of America really woke you to a lot of fucked up things that this country tries to hide. We wanted people to see this isn’t some 3rd world place, this is right in your city.
Madness To Creation: The lyric that stuck out “I will oppose everything that you believe”, what was the inspiration behind that lyric?
Richie: The song is about the super rich ruling and stealing from us all, and the things they believe will never be the things me or seven billion other people will. They think they know what’s best for us all because they have money, which is complete bullshit. I will always oppose what they try to feed to us regular people.
Madness To Creation: What is one thing that you want to do that will make the world a better place for everyone?
Richie: Just open peoples eyes through our videos and songs. We’ve always put out songs about social issues and the state of society hopefully people can take something away from what I sing about and talk about. We’re all not as helpless as some make us all out to be.
Madness To Creation: Plans for Incite for the summer!
Richie: Europe and a whole lot of it. We’re going to be doing a lot of festivals for the first time so we’re hella fired up for that. Plus the buzz from this album I expect to have some real big shit pop up soon.
Madness To Creation: Fun question, if Donald Trump started up a moshpit at an Incite show, how would you react?
Richie: I’d be down! It probably would do him some good to come hang with some real metalheads and learn about real life and real people. But it would be cool to have any president start the pit.
Madness To Creation: One fun interesting fact about yourself!
Richie: I probably smoke as much weed as Snoop Dogg does.
