After gaining much acclaim in regards to their 2017 EP One, Shallow Side has given their fans what they’ve been clamoring for with their first full-length album Saints and Sinners, set for release via Thermal Entertainment LLC March 29th!!  Shallow Side has been widely viewed as an emerging, “up and coming” band for several years now and gained commercial success through the release of the Styx cover “Renegade” off the aforementioned One EP and have parlayed that success into an explosive full-length album.

Shallow Side is composed of vocalist Eric Boatright, lead guitarist Seth Trimble, drummer Heath Fields, and bassist Matt Daniels.  All members’ talents are on full display in this album. The lead single “Sound the Alarm” is a very appropriate first release (available on most music outlets as of March 4) with a heavy opening riff that draws the listener in.  This song is a perfect representation of the band’s sound, both for this current album and their past work. Boatright possesses a powerful voice full of energy and passion. Listeners who will get their introduction to Shallow Side through this song will be drawn in instantly.  You can listen to “Sound the Alarm” through the link below:

The opening track “Revival” also contains these characteristics and contains powerful lyrics.  “We’ve been swimming through muddy waters/I wasn’t born to be a follower” captures the essence of the song and really the album as a whole.  Combine this message with Boatright’s energy and voice and I think “Revival” will emerge as the second hit of the album!

The second song of the album, the title track “Saints and Sinners” takes a different path as it is a slower song than most of the works, at least in the intitial build-up.  “Saints and Sinners, we are the same/When judgement comes, we can’t be saved/Saints and Sinners, when judgement comes, what side are you on?!” This is a very powerful song that can lead one to do A LOT of thinking about the choices life throws at us.

Overall, this is a very solid work from Shallow Side.  Fans of the band should be very enthusiastic about the first full-length album while new fans should be motivated to explore the previous EPs.  I give this album an 9/10 and I can confidently say it will rank very high on my list of top albums for 2019!
