Earlier this year, upstart indie-rock group BOBBY MAHONEY AND THE SEVENTH SON released their single “Should Have Called You Up(Last Night)” on all major platforms.  This band out of East Brunswick, New Jersey is showcasing that they are ready to be the next big act out of New Jersey.

The band has been pretty successful in the tri-state area since its inception.  They achieved one major dream that New Jersey musicians dream of, and that is getting to open a show for Bon Jovi in front of their hometown area audience in a packed arena.  This band has that feel of feelgood AM radio rock, with a bit of Tom Petty like classic rock moments infused into their music.  Their storytelling is great in this single as they sing about regret in relationships, it has that feel where you’re watching a season finale of a show like “This Is Us” or “Dawson’s Creek”, where you can envision this song being played in the background during a pivotal scene in the TV show.

This band has released four albums and with each song they arrange, they showcase some significant growth in their songwriting.  I like how frontman Bobby Mahoney sings with emotion and he has an honest voice, which draws the listener’s attention in.  The arrangements and rhythm section has little nuances in their music that showcases their ability to serve the song, which makes for nice melodies and hooks in this jam.  This was our first taste of the band, and it whetted the palate enough for us to be intrigued about this band going forward.  Madness To Creation gives this single a solid 8 out of 10 stars.
