Editor’s Note:  One of the best parts about this gig is getting to talk to brand new bands.  Granted, there’s a side to me that likes talking to the who’s who, but there’s a whole another side to me that likes talking to bands/recording artists that are cutting their teeth so to speak.  Nathan Spades and Kyle Ort of Southern California rock band DARK STATION are the latter.  Dark Station have recently released their music video entitled “Heroes” and they sat down with Madness To Creation to discuss the video along with mental health awareness.  Fans can find Dark Station at the following locations:

Madness To Creation:  You’ve released “Heroes”.  Take us into the song and what was the most fun part about making the music video.

Nathan:  So Heroes was honestly just about how artists now a days can work so hard and put so much into something, while all everyone does is try to tell them how they should’ve done it instead. This is what Dark Station saying: We’re only doing what we want, not what anyone else wants.

Kyle:  We filmed Heroes in North Carolina, so I would say the most fun thing about it was traveling across the country as a band. It was our first band related trip together, so I think it’s something we’ll always remember.

Madness To Creation:  Dark Station is releasing an album sometime in 2019.  What is the most challenging and rewarding aspect about the writing process.

Nathan:  The most challenging thing is every step of the way just making sure you’re showing the world the best parts of you in what you’re creating. Because it’s going to influence people, so just stick to the truth, about everything.

Kyle:  The most rewarding for me is the validation from the fans. When they explain what a song that we wrote means to them, or they sing the lyrics back to us at a live show, that makes all the hard work worth it.

Madness To Creation:  Madness To Creation is gearing this site to address mental health with everyone we talk to.  What are some stream of consciousness thoughts you have in regards to mental health?

Nathan:  I love that. I think it’s important we be aware of not just what’s going on in our heads, but those we care about and know. Dark Station actually has a message about that topic in particular coming very soon.

Madness To Creation:  How do you take care of yourself on the road and in life?

Nathan:   I haven’t hit the road yet personally. This will be my first time. But in life, once you’ve gone through enough, you start waking up and just mentally accepting that sometimes life sucks, or that you can’t take it anymore. The key is to just always pick life.

Kyle:   It’s important to try to eat right on the road. Playing in bars every night gives you the opportunity to eat junk food and drink excessively on the regular. I just try to make better decisions when I can. Pick the salad, not the fries kind of thing.

Madness To Creation:  What advice do you have if any Dark Station fans are struggling?

Nathan:  Listen to all the stuff that fits what you can’t say, but want to scream. Let that shit heal you until you can’t cry anymore and you get stronger, whether it’s us, or someone else who can better explain what you’re feeling. That’s why we all do what we do.

Kyle:  Definitely seek help. There are many resources available today depending on what your specifically struggling with. Maybe listening to your favorite band is enough to help, or maybe you need a professional. Either way, don’t let it get out of control.

Madness To Creation:  One song or album you look to that gets you through when things get difficult.

Nathan:  Meteora by Linkin Park

Kyle:  Far Beyond Driven by Pantera

Madness To Creation:  Take us into a Dark Station show in Southern California or anywhere.

Nathan:  We haven’t had a show yet, so we shall see..

Kyle:  We have some ideas in the works, but you’ll just have to wait for the first show.

Madness To Creation:  What else would you like to add about Dark Station?

Nathan:  If you like the 1st album, you’re going to love the second.

Kyle:  Come out to a show, come talk to us, message us online. We make time for anyone that makes time for us.

And there you have it!  Keep up with Dark Station at the socials and website listed above for latest news and happenings in regards to the band.
