It was a raucous night of rock music as Shinedown headlined the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey. The hard rock bands Shinedown and Badflower will be remembered as the groups that brought the mental health discussion to the forefront as the Holmdel audience will be raving about this night for a long time to come. Being the direct support of one of the biggest rock bands right now can certainly be a daunting task, however, that didn’t phase the boys in Badflower. Their songs cut deep like a knife, all full of pain and angst, and their riffs and arrangements further bring home their songs that deal with depression, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts. Badflower’s mission is to bring the mental health conversation to the forefront, and they do a nice job of balancing out the painful lyrics while trying to provide that light at the end of the tunnel. The crowd erupted when they sang they last two songs “Heroin” and their smash hit “Ghost”.
