The band says that they don’t fit in like that gigantic mole on someone’s face.  Given the album title and the spastic nature of Vibrant Heels, I wouldn’t expect them to fit in.  The Canadian funk-rockers recently released their EP entitled “Turbo Thunder Pussy”.

The album title will make you feel deathly afraid of doing a Google Image search on the album cover, but fear not, the album cover is of a precious kitten with a turbo jetpack strapped to it.  Before examining this album, this immediately tells me that Vibrant Heels are fun-loving, yet take their arrangements super seriously.

If you’re looking for a band that seems to effortlessly meld Red Hot Chili Peppers with Jane’s Addiction and Mr. Bungle/Faith No More, then look no further.  From funk rock elements of “Into The Fray” to a more sludgy Faith No More meets grunge feel of “Orbital Bombardment”, Vibrant Heels is definitely a band that throws you a curveball when you were expecting a fastball right down the pipe.  Case in point, vocalist Jordan Jolicoeur is able to have haunting whispers in his voice in one breath, with epic screams and atmospheric harmonies in the next breath.  The rhythm section of Alex Rancourt on bass and Manuel Allaire-Durand on drums provides that smooth funk feel but can turn on you with some heavy rhythms in the next breath.

“Ruby/Engine” reminds me of old school Red Hot Chili Peppers when John Frusciante would wail on the guitar back in the day.  The song is by far my favorite track on the record, it causes you to dance in such a way where you’re hiding the fact that your testicles itch like mad and the song is providing that cure to the itch. The guitars of Alex Bussieres just sound funky and sexy as hell in this track.

Vibrant Heels is one of those bands that it’s criminal that they are under the radar.  “Turbo Thunder Pussy” is such a fun listen that you’ll slap your Grandma over the awesomeness of it.  Madness To Creation gives this a 9 out of 10 stars.  Check out the track listing:
