Editor’s Note:  Today, New York City songstress Rachel Lynn released her single entitled “Look Into Me” on all major platforms.  Major media outlets such as Baeble Music, The Huffington Post and PopMatters have all heralded her work, and her work is a combination of 90’s pop with Motown vibes while having a classically trained voice to boot.  Madness To Creation was lucky enough to sit down with Rachel Lynn to discuss “Look Into Me”, her influences and the importance of mental health awareness.  Fans can find Rachel Lynn at the following locations:

Madness To Creation:  You seem to have an oldies/jazz vibe in your vocals.  Take us into your biggest influences and one artist you’d love to share the stage with alive or dead.

Rachel:  Thank you so much–that’s a huge compliment to me. I’m very influenced by old soul–Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, and Smokey Robinson were the first records I ever bought. I’m really drawn to contemporary artists who share that inspiration, so I think if I could share the stage with one person right now, it would be Donna Missal. She’s an amazing musician and vocalist and just an absolute force of authentic talent and passion on stage.

Madness To Creation:  Biggest opportunity you have ever received?

Rachel:  I’ll never forget when I got to open for AJR at Webster Hall a few years back. They’re great guys, and their fans were so warm and welcoming.

Madness To Creation:  Take us into the single “Look Into Me”, how is it directly related to mental health awareness?

Rachel:  I wrote “Look to Me” while I was in a relationship with someone who struggled with severe depression. I wanted to be a sense of support, and I think I was, but it was really difficult. The song talks about the effect someone else’s demons can have on you and on a relationship, but ultimately says if you look to me, it will be okay.

Madness To Creation:  What helps you smile and get through difficult times?

Rachel:  It’s so important to identify the things that bring you joy and then actively incorporate them into your life. For me, a few of those things are writing, performing, yoga, and making sure I get plenty of time with friends–I’m incredibly extroverted.

Madness To Creation:  Best thing about making music is?

Rachel:  Singing is my favorite thing. There’s really no feeling like performing my songs on stage. I hope I get to do it for a long time.

Madness To Creation:  Take us into a Rachel Lynn concert.

Rachel:  My goal in performing is to connect with the people in the room. Whether it’s stripped and acoustic or a full band show, I want to find an intimacy with the people I’m singing to and sharing the experience with. That connection is what drives me to keep performing.

Madness To Creation:  Plans for Rachel Lynn for the rest of the year?

Rachel:  I’ve got a few more shows coming up in November (Boston, NYC, and Baltimore), and then I’ll be gearing up to release more music in the new year!

Madness To Creation:  What else would you like to add?

Rachel:  Please give me a follow @rachellynnsings to keep up with my shows and releases!
