Editor’s Note: There are few things in music that is more genius than the creation of Mac Sabbath. Think about it. A band that makes fun of McDonald’s to the tunes of Black Sabbath. Ozzy Osbourne himself reacted to it and loved it! They recently wrapped up their tour with Okilly Dokilly and Playboy Manbaby, and the manager, Mike Odd of Mac Sabbath, took the time to converse with Madness To Creation on mental health awareness, the difficulties of dealing with frontman Ronald Osbourne, and many other topics. Madness To Creation: What was your biggest memory while the band you manage was on tour with Okilly Dokilly and Playboy Manbaby?
Mike Odd: Well, we did make a video together for the land of YouTube, for the last few shows Okilly Dokilly had to leave early, so we tried to do the big finale when they left, for that we had one last song where we were all out there together, you’ll just have to look for it and find it, I don’t know how to tell you where to find it…*laughs*, you’ll just have to show up and find it happening when it happens, there’s always awesome surprises and it’s always something different, “well, why didn’t you play “More Ribs” this time”, there’s always something different and the set changes a lot, you’ll just have to keep going back and see all the songs that you want to see. It’s not a one shot deal! Some of the big hits are only played on particular shows, fans never know what it’s going to be, it’ll always be different.
Madness To Creation: What’s the most difficult and rewarding part about managing Mac Sabbath?
Mike Odd: The most rewarding part is that I get to stay away from them as much as possible, every once in awhile, I am forced to be there because they have to stay mysterious and anonymous, but he’s very difficult to deal with, I mean he’s always traveling through the time-space continuum in some sort of wormhole back and forth back to the 1970’s to try to save us from the current state of food and music, and bring us back to a time where rock and sustenance was organic and a whole thing, so he’s very difficult to deal with because I don’t know if it’s from all the damage from time travel or just plain old insanity, but he doesn’t accept any modern technology past 1979, and as a manager of a band trying to get him to do things that people have to do, to be in a band these days is very difficult, and he’s all about making it very hard for me!
Madness To Creation: Does it lead into actual altercations with Ronald Osbourne?
Mike Odd: Oh yeah! *laughs* That’s my life!
Madness To Creation: And you live to tell about it?
Mike Odd: Maybe, hopefully, this was the last one! *laughs*
Madness To Creation: If you were to write a how-to survival guide on how to manage Mac Sabbath, what would a couple chapters in the guide be about?
Mike Odd: It would be “annoyed, annoyed, annoyed”, you can’t figure it out, just when you think you have it figured out, these guys are taking the food out of my mouth, it’s just a bunch of craziness, I have do deal with Sugar Bon Jovi, KFC/DC, and Burger King Doveland, I just ignore it, it’s just delusions of grandeur, and all of a sudden Burger King showed up at a venue, and I’m like, “is this even an opening band”, and he’ll be like all mad, yelling at the security guards and fighting with the security guards, and I’m like, “why did you let them in here”, and they’re like, “I don’t know anything about it”, and he’s like, “I think they’re selling me a Whopper”, and I’m like, “wait a second” and I’m like, “did he organize this to make me crazy”, it was just the punchline at the end of the drama.
Madness To Creation: What’s one way you’re going to get back at Ronald Osbourne for making your life miserable?
Mike Odd: Quitting! *laughs* But it is my job nowadays, we’ll see what happens.
Madness To Creation: How cool was it to orchestrate Ozzy Osbourne reacting to Mac Sabbath?
Mike Odd: That’s another funny one, it has nothing to do with me, Ronald did that behind my back, unbeknownst to me, I didn’t hear anything about it, and all of a sudden this picture surfaces, and I’m looking at this picture of Ozzy hanging out with the band, why did you do that, is it photoshop, so I’m trying to figure this out, so I would call the landline there, and he won’t give it up, he’s just teasing me laughing at me, saying the most cryptic things, and the video surfaces, and they did great things with it, Rolling Stone picked it up and showed the article and everything, that whole thing was starting to harken back on purpose because the press was asking me about that picture for months and months and I couldn’t answer, so it makes me wonder who he is and who does he know, I mean he actually connected with Black Sabbath and it just expanded the mystery further and further and I don’t really know what’s going on.
Madness To Creation: What’s next, Dio is going to come back from the dead since he was in Black Sabbath as well.
Mike Odd: Right! It’s just that question I always get, “what was it like meeting Ozzy Osbourne, and I’m like, “I wish I knew” *laughs hysterically*, what was your question now?
Madness To Creation: Is that why Ronald Osbourne doesn’t do interviews, why doesn’t he like doing press?
Mike Odd: I mean if he gets involved with modern technology, it screws up the time-space continuum, I have a thing where it’s just nice to keep him separate from the public and have me deal with them, I mean you’re not going to have a good time, it’s not going to make any difference, so that’s the one thing we’re in agreement on, then that way, nobody talks to him.
Madness To Creation: Maybe you and Ronald can find that common ground and build upon the one thing that you both agree on, have you and Ronald tried that?
Mike Odd: Oh hell no! *laughs*
Madness To Creation: What’s holding you two back from doing that?
Mike Odd: No positivity! *laughs* That would be an exercise in futility!
Madness To Creation: Maybe we can get Dr. Phil to help out?
Mike Odd: Oh boy, my two favorite people! *laughs*
Madness To Creation: What’s next for Mac Sabbath?
Mike Odd: I want to do as little as possible! There’s some things that I’m working on to try to get them more focused, they’re playing the Monsters of Rock Cruise which takes off in Florida with just a bunch of metal bands like Krokus is playing, Faster Pussycat, Lizzy Borden, it just goes on and on, so that’ll be interesting being on a boat and doing this, that’ll definitely be news.
Madness To Creation: I wonder if Mac Sabbath will enjoy that cause I’m not sure if cruise lines offer vegan and organic food?
Mike Odd: That’s another thing that I haven’t tackled in my mind yet, thanks for bringing that up and thanks for causing me more anxiety! *laughs* Oh man, I can’t wait to hear about this.
Madness To Creation: You had Mac Sabbath meet the guys in Insane Clown Posse at this past summer’s “Gathering of the Juggalos”, what was the coolest thing about that experience?
Mike Odd: I assume he did that, but I wasn’t there with them, the Clowns have toured with us before, just look them up sometime, they’re amazing and hilarious, but the Gathering was just really something, it was just gigantic, we had no idea how big it was and how diverse it was, it was really something to see, they’ve built themselves a reputation that’s not necessarily good, but everyone seemed like a nice bunch of misunderstood kids to me.
Madness To Creation: Speaking of Juggalos and Juggalettes, have you seen that Super Humman guy that does like backflips and wrestling moves on barbed wire and microwaves, stuff like that?
Mike Odd: No, I haven’t really heard of him.
Madness To Creation: Fair enough, it’s just a guy that he just goes, “this is for all my Juggalos and Juggalettes”, and he jumps into barbed wire, microwaves, toy cars, etc.
Mike Odd: Nope, doesn’t ring a bell, Mac Sabbath went on at 4 PM on that day, it was at 4:20 PM that we went on, and everyone packed up and left when the sun was coming up.
Madness To Creation: Did you and Mac Sabbath partake in some 4:20 activities since that’s what time you went on?
Mike Odd: Nah, we’re a family band, so we don’t get into all of that, gotta make the children happy, we want to make sure that this message gets to as many young people as possible.
Madness To Creation: So how would you sum up the message of Mac Sabbath overall?
Mike Odd: Slow down and don’t get caught up in the convenience of the drive-thru lifestyle, slow down, appreciate life, research it, research what’s going on in the fast food industry and in the meat industry, if you read the lyrics in the song “Organic Funeral”, there’s a word in that song that has many syllables, like 11 syllables that takes up the entire line of the song like when Ozzy would be saying seven words and Ronald would be saying one word, that word is a chemical that’s in almost every hamburger bun that’s in fast food places in America that’s not legal in any other country because they classify it as poison in every country but this one. You have Monsanto and FDA going back and forth, and they keep changing members, so the very organization that’s trying to protect us from being poisoned is the same organization that is poisoning us, it’s kind of something that we need to look into and figure out if you want to live or continue to be poisoned by this government.
Madness To Creation: Does Ronald think that all of this stuff that’s in our food affects our mental health and all that?
Mike Odd: Yeah, if you look at the lyrics, that’s in there as well, being poisoned isn’t mentally healthy.
Madness To Creation: What’s the next big thing coming up for Mac Sabbath?
Mike Odd: They’re working on something big for 2020, but I cannot tell you what it is. Just gotta get out of here alive man!
