It was a sold-out show at the legendary Agora as King Diamond brought the darkness with special guests Uncle Acid and The Deadbeats this past Friday.
Uncle Acid and The Deadbeats brought the stoner/psychedelic/classic metal vibes to the King Diamond faithful at The Agora. The ominous sounds enveloped The Agora as they kicked into “I’ll Cut You Down”. The song has such a classic vibe with a stoner/sludge twist to it. The vocal range was impeccable and the guitar tones were absolutely sweet to listen to. Then, they sang about the horrors of a nuclear holocaust in the song “Shockwave City”. The tones and their musicianship not only warmed up the crowd by raised the bar for King Diamond’s headlining gig.
Stairs adorned either side of the stage as a darkened mood filled up the venue as the crowd was eagerly awaiting the legendary King Diamond(Mercyful Fate). Haunting organs and faint screams engulfed the venue as King Diamond rose through the smoke and a haunting chant filled up the venue. This music is what nightmares are made of and suddenly the guitars and thundering rhythm section took over the night as the crowd roared in resounding approval. King Diamond has one of the highest pitched voices I have ever heard in a live stage, much less his studio recordings. They started off with “The Candle”, which seems to be a great way to start off a concert.
Then, blood red lights consumed the stage and they kicked into “Behind These Walls”. King Diamond’s mic and cross added to the spectacle along with his face-paint adorned with the inverted cross that made him look absolutely sinister. Sick guitar solo during the instrumental break as well.
The audience was treated to an upcoming single entitled “Masquerade of Madness”, but otherwise they were treated to the classics off of legendary King Diamond albums such as “Abigail”, “The Eye”, “The Dark Side”, “Conspiracy” and “Fatal Portrait”. It was a night of nostalgia and a preview of what’s to come for the legendary King Diamond.
