On January 31st, Sevendust guitarist Clint Lowery launches his solo debut album God Bless The Renegades.  The album is a ten-track masterpiece and is a result of a career-long process Lowery always wanted to see produced.  He dug into this work throughout 2019 and is now finally ready to release the milestone of his career. “Putting this under my name was a big decision.  There’s an empowerment to it; I’m glad I did it, because it’s me,” Lowery states through the press release announcing this album.

Many fans will already be familiar with some work as the debut single “Kings” was released November 1st and then the title track “God Bless the Renegades” followed three weeks later.  Often when members of famous bands try breaking out on their own, the solo work sounds like an extension of that band’s work. Lowery illustrates a very unique sound all his own through this work.

Lowery hits the listener with his best right away as “God Bless the Renegades”, “Here”, and “Kings” are the three best songs on the album.  The title track is a celebration of and a tribute to the people who live their lives willing to step outside the social norms. It’s a very appropriate opening track that most listeners should find uplifting.  If there’s anything on the album that sounds like Sevendust, it’s “Here.” This is a harder, faster song than the opening track full of the powerful guitar riffs Lowery is known for. This track is followed by the first release of the album “Kings” which is lyrically one of the most powerful songs on the album.  Lowery himself says that “Kings” illustrates “This intense life I’ve lived. There’s been a lot of decadence but I’ve survived it. I don’t regret anything. I’m glad I survived.” The song sums up these sentiments perfectly. Please check out the official videos for both “God Bless the Renegades” and “Kings” below:

Overall, this debut solo from Lowery is excellent!  I rate it a 9/10 and consider it an early possibility for the 2020 album of the year.  Lowery has waited a long time to be able to put this together and the result should leave his fans and new fans alike clamoring for more in the future.
