Punk inspired hard rockers Pint + Blister from Chester, UK, return with their brand new single, ‘Dysthymia’. This follows the release of their singles, ‘Angry Machine’ and ‘Upwardly Mobile (Ultimately Vile)’, which both landed late last year. The boys have been causing a stir around the North-West, England with their energetic, enthusiastic and non-nonsense performances.
Persistent depressive disorder, also called dysthymia, is a continuous long-term (chronic) form of depression. You may lose interest in normal daily activities, feel hopeless, lack productivity, and have low self-esteem and an overall feeling of inadequacy. These feelings last for years and may significantly interfere with your relationships, school, work and daily activities.
“Dysthymia is about depression and dealing with it on a daily basis. How doing the most basic tasks can become a chore and you lose interest in everything. However, the music is in a major key played with vigorous power and energy. And the chorus is big, powerful and catchy. The ‘pill-form bliss’ line is a reference to taking medication in order to cope. The idea being that ‘Dysthymia’ offers hope to anyone who finds themselves in this situation.”
‘Dysthymia’ is one of the band’s oldest songs, a set staple, and offers a different side to their song writing compared to previous releases ‘Angry Machine’ and ‘Upwardly Mobile (Ultimately Vile)’/’Why Won’t You Love Me?’. Whilst maintaining the raw energy and punk influence on these earlier singles, ‘Dysthymia’ leans towards their hard rock roots with a punk influence and a more ambitious song arrangement. ‘Dysthymia’ is their longest release (at a huge
4:22 minutes!) and showcases each member’s talent on their respective instruments. ‘Dysthymia’ also presents a development in the studio, as was recorded by the band themselves in their ‘BED+SHED Studios’.
