Editor’s Note: It’s always cool getting to talk to a band that you feel is going to be on the brink of greatness and excellence. That band is Colorado Springs, Colorado’s own TIGERWINE. Tigerwine is composed of Hayden Trobee, Sean McKnight, Steve Lichtenwalter, and Shane Riley. In this interview with Madness To Creation, Sean McKnight of Tigerwine discusses their latest album “Nothing Is For You” via Tooth & Nail Records, along with coping through the Covid-19 pandemic and mental health awareness. Madness To Creation: “Nothing Is For You” is out now via Tooth & Nail Records, how has the relationship been with the label and take us into a day in the life of the writing process for Tigerwine.
Sean: Absolutely amazing. T&N have been nothing short of amazing to us, they made us feel like family right out of the gate. They pursued us and showed interest into our lives as musicians as well as human beings, which meant so much. Writing has always been so easy, especially since we’ve been doing this together for years. Someone comes with an idea, and we all get to add what we want to make it personal to each individual. We are always respectful about what we like and don’t like, and try to never throw away and idea. Persistence is key for us!
Madness To Creation: How have you coped with the Covid-19 pandemic?
Sean: I’m losing my mind not being able to see people, but want everyone to be safe. I’ve been working, playing music and FaceTiming everyone possible to stay sane.
Madness To Creation: What adjustments have you had to make to your social media accounts when it came to the Covid-19 pandemic?
Sean: Not much, we have always tried to reach out to people and respond to friends who hit us up.
Madness To Creation: What’s the first thing you want to do when this pandemic is all over?
Sean: Get a beer and go thrift shopping. I miss those more than I would have realized.
Madness To Creation: We focus on mental health awareness here at Madness To Creation, what helps get you through the tough and stressful times and what makes you happy?
Sean: Oh man. There is so much! I’d say first off is my amazing wife and daughter, they add so much light into my life. Being able to be vulnerable with friends and family is key for me, I need to always bounce my thoughts off of someone in order to not keep a jumbled mess in my head. Its hard to do, but if anyone is struggling with their mental health it’s always good to reach out to someone you can trust to help process whatever is going on. Never be scared to ask for help.
Madness To Creation: Favorite thing about where you live?
Sean: Where to start! We have an amazing music community in Colorado Springs, I feel so lucky for that! It’s like a giant family that always has each others back. And the mountains for sure. And how the sun is almost always shining. We are pretty lucky!
Madness To Creation: Your Saturday night jam before you go out with your friends?
Sean: If I were allowed to go out again, I’d say “I Let It In and It Took Everything” by Loathe has been on repeat for me for a good while.
Madness To Creation: What else would you like to plug in regards to the album or the band?
Sean: Listen to “Nothing Is For You” whenever you stream music, and reach out to us however you feel comfortable! We love meeting and talking to new people. We also have (in my opinion) amazing merch through Relentless Merch, and vinyl for sale on Tooth and Nails website. Everything helps us stay afloat until we can start touring again!
