Madness To Creation: Thank you for taking the time to interview with me for Madness To Creation. You all released “The Antidote” EP on Friday, how has the response been so far?
Jordan: The pleasure is ours, thank you for having us! The response to the new release has been amazing. The new songs are a real departure from our first album “The Escape” but we’ve found our signature sound now. We were curious what fans of the older songs would think and the feedback has been nothing but positive so we’re really proud and excited!
Madness To Creation: How have your plans altered with the Covid-19 pandemic in regards to the release of this EP?
Jordan: Just like everyone, the rug had been pulled out from underneath us. We had planned to release the full album but dates kept getting pushed back. So, as a compromise, we released an EP on the release date to keep our promise to the fans and give them something during this time and the rest, which will make up the album, will be released later in the year.
Madness To Creation: How have you coped with this pandemic? We cover mental health awareness, in essence, what helps get you through?
Jordan: It’s been a wild time, not going to lie, some days are better than others and even some hours are better than others throughout the day. The only solace we have is that we are all in this together and this won’t last forever. I know it’s hard in the thick of it but this isn’t life and when things go back to “normal” we can all pick our lives back up. I’ve been going for walks and instead of avoiding people it’s nice to wave, smile or say hi (at a distance) to connect.
Madness To Creation: Take us into the writing process of Between Kings? What is the mindset when you go into the studio and what inspires you?
Jordan: The mindset is to always be authentic; we always write what we want and make sure it makes us excited first. Sometimes Nic might come to me (Jordan) with a melody line, which was the case with “Antidote” and I wrote the track around it or alternatively I’d come up with a demo and then we would sit down, feel the music and what we think it will be about, look for the melody first then the lyrics.
Madness To Creation: What makes you happy?
Jordan: We all live together as a band with some of our girlfriends and wives so we’re one big family we’ve made. Being able to wake up, hang out with your friends and make music you love together makes me happy. In our spare time, we love bike riding, skating, gym, games and movies.
Madness To Creation: You released a music video for “Too Young To Give A Fuck,” take us into that video and most fun experience you had while making the music video?
Jordan: That video was such a crazy experience! It’s a video of happenstance, with everyone in quarantine we wanted to bring people together. We had over 100 people submit videos of them doing whatever they wanted that went into the final clip. It was great to see everyone having fun and laughing during such a terrible time.
Madness To Creation: When this is all over, what’s the first thing you want to do?
Jordan: TOUR! We can’t wait to hit the road, meet fans and play the new music for them.
Madness To Creation: What else would you like to add in regards to Between Kings?
Jordan: Honestly, we just want to thank the fans for listening and keeping up with us and the people in the media such as yourself who are taking the time to talk to us, so thank you!
