On November 21st with a special encore presentation, rising stars in the alternative rock world Set It Off unleashed their livestream of “The Midnight Tour Part 0:  The Internet” to their faithful masses.  Set It Off ensured that you got your money’s worth with their livestream.

To be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect.  I’ve heard amazing things about this trio, and a fellow contributor stated that it will be unlike anything that I’ve ever heard in my life.  I strapped on the proverbial seatbelt and the first thing I noticed was that there was no bassist.

The stage was illuminated with lasers, darker lights, and a video screens that were quite influenced by Pink Floyd “The Pulse”, as the videos seemed to have intertwined with the moods of the songs.  Set It Off then kicked in with “Lonely Dance”.

First of all, the lead singer Cody Carson mixes soul, r&b and rock into his unique vocal stylings.  If I were to compare his vocals, I’d say a mix of(I kid you not), Freddie Mercury of Queen meets My Chemical Romance meets Marvin Gaye.  I don’t say that lightly, he has the theatrics of Freddie Mercury, can snarl a bit like My Chemical Romance, and can set the tone of the song like Marvin Gaye.  Maxx Danzinger provided the drums and programming and Zach DeWall kills it on the guitar, what I appreciate about his playing is that it serves the song beautifully, which is more challenging than ripping a guitar solo.

The rhythms and beats in “Hypnotized” and “No Disrespect” were soulful and absolutely sick to listen to.  “Bad Guy”, Maxx and Cody switched duties in the band and Maxx played a ukulele while singing and Cody kept serious rhythm with his drumming.  Their harmonies in “Duality” were out of this world.

In terms of lyrical content, Set It Off fits perfectly to what Madness To Creation is all about, which is using their music as a platform to discuss mental health.  Set It Off exudes passion about this topic in the songs “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead” and “Unopened Windows”.  The emotion conveyed in these songs were felt and heard by those who needed to hear that message.

Based on their lyrical content, call to arms about confronting mental health, and their ridiculous stage presence, Set It Off established themselves as a must-see show when they come to your neck of the woods.  If this band doesn’t pack arenas in five years, it will be a miscarriage of justice for the band and the music industry as a whole.  Check out the setlist below:
