On this day on February 11th, the legendary Prince premiered the song “The Most Beautiful Girl In The World” on the 1994 Miss USA Pageant.  This song would be Prince(at the time the “Artist fka Prince)’s only number one single on the UK Billboard 100 pop charts.  The song would intricately blend 70’s soul with 90’s pop and the song was also an ode to his fiance at the time.  The song would appear on the 1994 EP “The Beautiful Experience” and the 1995 album “The Gold Experience”.

On this day, February 12th, 1961 Smokey Robinson & The Miracles’ smash hit “Shop Around” became Motown’s first single selling one million copies on its release.  The song would spend eight weeks on top of the Billboard R&B Charts, and it’s ranked at #500 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s Top 500 Songs of All-Time List.  The song mixes doo-wop with soul and it is widely considered to be a pioneering song on Motown music.  It’s plain to see why. The harmonies and melodies are ridiculous and it’s plain to see why Smokey Robinson is considered to be so influential in the Motown and today’s R&B world.
