(Mental Health Conversations): ASHLYNN MALIA

Editor’s Note:  TikTok/Instagram sensation Ashlynn Malia sat down with Madness To Creation to discuss the release of her new EP entitled “rather be alone”, along with mental health, and her music video for “temporary.”  Ashlynn is based out of Los Angeles and she offers whimsical flows, insightful lyrics and such scintillating grooves.  Based on “rather be alone”, Ashlynn Malia’s future is so bright, she’s gotta wear shades.  We sat down and talked for a moment about social media, mental health and getting amped up for release week.  Fans can find Ashlynn Malia on Twitter, Instagram and TikTok.

Here is Ashlynn Malia on “temporary”:  When I write songs I place a lot of emphasis on my lyrics. The picture my words paint directly effects the choices we make during production. To me, they’re the center of everything. This video exists so everyone listening experiences the song that way too.

Madness To Creation:  What is the most challenging aspect about managing your social media accounts?

Ashlynn Malia:  Honestly, I feel like I’m still constantly learning about social media. The algorithms change, trends change, and there’s one side of me that wants to keep up and one side of me that straight up doesn’t care about the way I’m perceived through a phone screen. What I will say, though, is every time I’ve made honesty and genuine interactions with people my priority on social media, I’ve felt the most successful.

Madness To Creation:  What have you learned about yourself the most through this pandemic?

Ashlynn Malia:   I’ve learned that I really really love my solitude. I love the little world I’m in when I’m by myself. Sometimes I genuinely would “rather be alone” lol.

Madness To Creation:  How have you prepared yourself mentally for release week of “rather be alone?”

Ashlynn Malia:   I have not mentally prepared myself for this week at all. It’s hitting me like a ton of bricks. It’s funny- I’ve dreamt about this week for so long only to get here and realize there is no way for me to predict what I’m gonna feel. Once this EP is out in the world it’s no longer in my hands, and I can’t control how it’s received. This week has mostly been about accepting that. I’m proud of the art I created. I love it so much. And I’m excited for it to find the people who love it like I do.

Madness To Creation:  What’s the first thing you want to do when this is over?

Ashlynn Malia:  I’ll be performing live as much as I can this summer!

Madness To Creation:  Lastly, what are your personal and professional goals for this week?

Ashlynn Malia:  My main goal for this week is to find as many things to be grateful for as possible. Recently it’s been really easy for me to lose myself in judgement and that’s not gonna be how I experience this release. Too much good stuff happening. I guess that same thing goes for my summer goals, personally and professionally. It’s art. It’s not that serious. I get to play.
