Killswitch Engage takes over all our homes and delivers a once in a lifetime experience that all of us could have on our couch with their livestream event “Vaccinated + Intoxicated” Live from The Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts.
We all have a want and most importantly, a need to be entertained. While some areas of the world are opening up full capacity concerts, some places may not get to experience this or due to health reasons, have no choice BUT to stay home. Well, even during a time where the bands we love are struggling, they are trying to come through for us. Killswitch Engage is no exception to this. They decided to get some cameras, their instruments, and an empty room at the beautiful Palladium in Worcester and put some heart and soul into a nostalgic setlist of songs from their 2000 self titled debut album and their latest album “Atonement”.
Immediately out of the gate, the energy is evident with the start of the opening song Unleashed. While watching this live stream one can feel the excitement to be playing music again, knowing that they are giving us an escape. These guys go for an hour and a half. One would wonder if there are too many nerves or a wonder if the slight bit of dust from being stuck in the house would have to be swept, but that thought is put to rest from the moment the set starts to the moment it ends. KSE really do a wonderful job of making the watcher feel special, even though, thousands are viewing, it feels like this whole preparation and setlist was meant for whoever is watching it.
There is plenty of evidence of vintage KSE plastered all throughout the stream. While the music is the most important part, the effort put into the package was incredible, the lighting, the quality, and even the stability of the stream itself was great, not to mention for quite a steal of a price. During the stream, there was a point where it seemed like the band were done playing, but as noticed the stream doesn’t end. 1999 comes out of nowhere and the band is replaced by their former selves (blond wig, club venue, and dreads all inclusive) and remind us all where the roots come from. Over a two-decade career for these guys come full circle and KSE takes us all along for the ride with them as they play their ENTIRE self-titled album without sounding like they missed a beat!
In closing, this was as absolute treat for everyone that’s a fan of KSE and a fan of metal in general came together to celebrate the 20+ year career of one of the most dedicated bands in the industry today. Fans were treated like gold with an amazing presentation, setlist, and the guttural laughs. The price was a steal, and the stream was amazing. These guys worked hard to bring us something during a time where there wasn’t much to celebrate or to be hopeful for. KSE really showed us some love and helped us make it through to a new tomorrow. Everyone that tuned in, made their house, the place to be that August night.
