Editor’s Note:  On August 27th, the blistering German modern metal band VENUES released their album entitled “Solace” via Arising Empire.  The band entered Sawdust Recordings with producer Christoph Wieczorek(Annisokay) to record “Solace” and the results have been nothing short of spectacular.  This is the first album to feature clean vocalist Daniela “Lela” Gruber and between her vocals and unclean vocalist Robin Baumann, there is a plethora of dynamics at play in this effort.  Venues has shared the stage with Polaris, The Amity Affliction and Atreyu.  Let’s get straight on with the review of the record:

“Solace” by VENUES, offers just what solace is supposed to offer, moments of clarity in the midst of brutality and that refuge in the midst of uncertain times.  “Razorblade Teeth” immediately highlights the strong vocals of Lela during the bridge and Robin comes in like a cage tiger unleashed.  “Razorblade Teeth” is anthemic and is a perfect way to start off a VENUES record.

“Whydah Gally” has the feel of Amaranthe, yet VENUES puts their own twist on it with the harmonics in the guitars.  I absolutely love how it builds to the chorus and fans get an alternative rock side to VENUES in the chorus. Then there’s a sick breakdown that will cause necks to snap like a Seth Rollins curb stomp.

“Rite of Passage” is probably the most “radio friendly” track on the album, it’s our MENTAL HEALTH MOMENT of the album, the song beautifully talks about moving forward from past transgressions. I absolutely love the message behind the song.

If you’re into sick punishing riffs, with punishing growls and scintillating vocals, then “Solace” by VENUES is for you.  They also offer messages of believing in yourself and never giving up hope!  Fans can find VENUES on Facebook, Instagram and their official website.
