(Concert Therapy Reviews): VIXEN Live at The Landis Theater in Vineland, New Jersey (7/11/2021)

While trying to write this review... all I keep referencing back to in my mind is Lorraine Lewis's use of the term "Hella-cool". If I may be so bold, I'd like to use this word to describe the recent Vixen show I was lucky enough to see. Vixen has been rocking the stages for the past few decades and in their original hey-day I wasn't able to see them. However this time around, that was not the case. Playing recently at the beautiful Landis Theater in Vineland, NJ, I was not going to miss this opportunity. Local NJ Cat Manning opened up the show. I was unfamiliar with her work before hearing her at this show. But I have to say WHAT A TALENT. Cat has a great voice- powerful, expressive and she can really belt out a tune. She has the kind of voice which makes people take notice. A little bit ...

(Concert Review): The Welcome Back New York Concert featuring THE VELVICKS & FAT HEAVEN- East Riverbank Amphitheater in New York, New York (6/12/2021)

After many long and arduous months it's starting to appear that the world is getting back to "normal". People are outside cycling, barbequing, lounging in the sun and live music is finally putting it's feet into the wading pool to test the waters. This past Saturday LAUNCH featured a small, free and very intimate concert in New York City's East River Ampitheater featuring The Velvicks and Fat Heaven. If you're not familiar with either band, that's ok. I wasn't very familiar with them either not too long ago. First up was Fat Heaven who's pop punk energy rivalled that of a young Green Day. Their songs were catchy and downright FUN. Their set was short, as were most of the songs- but their sound was good. One of the best tunes of the day was Crybaby. Check out their  Bandcamp ...

(Concert Review) QUEENSRYCHE live at Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey (2/15/2020)

The verdict is in, Queensryche  still rocks after all these years. After a tumultuous decade, they have entered 2020 with a renewed energy and vigor. This past Saturday night I experienced the new live stage show for this year’s Verdict tour. And I have to say I was most impressed. Opening support for the band on this run is NYC rockers Eve to Adam with direct support coming from guitarist extraordinaire, the one and only John 5.   Eve to Adam hit the stage with their high-energy brand of hard rock full force. I saw the crowd respond to them very positively. Though there was a faction who weren’t familiar with the band and their songs, they were very easy to get into. Their songs had good grooves with powerful vocals. Though their set was short, the crowd really got into the mat...

(Concert Review) SONS OF APOLLO Live at Gramercy Theater in New York, New York (2/6/2020)

They say talent begets talent. When you start with a core of extremely talented musicians they tend to work with likeminded and like-talented artists. This is especially true when it comes to the members of Sons Of Apollo. After recently releasing their sophomore album MMXX a few short weeks ago, the band went out for a short tour. I was lucky enough to catch the Sons of Apollo show at the lovely Gramercy Theater in NYC. Show openers Mass Extinction Event were a showcase of guitar sweeps and arpeggios not seen this side of Yngwie Malmsteen. More interestingly both guitarists play lefthanded.   Kicking off support was Tony MacAlpine. I have to say this was a particular highlight for me having never seeing him live before. And like SOA, Tony surrounds himself with some GREAT musici...

(Concert Review) CLUTCH Live at Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey (12/30/2019)

There are few certainties left in this world.. however the band Clutch just happens to be part of two of them. 1) They put on a great show for their audiences and 2) They usually play aspectacular end of the year show in NJ at the Starland Ballroom. Clutchmas this year was actually a 3 night event happening in three different states: NC, NJ and then finishing up in Philadelphia on New Year's Eve.Lucky for me that I was able to be there for this year's CLUTCHMAS concert in NJ. The night began for me with Damon Johnson, who by name I was not familiar with. However he was the singer and guitarist for the band 90's southern rock inspired Brother Cane who had some popularity with the tune "And Fools Shine On" which was amongst his short set. He also made mention of the fact that he was hon...

(Concert Review) P.O.D. with NONPOINT Live at Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey (5/21/2019)

It's hard to believe that for over two decades Nonpoint and POD have been bringing their high energy shows to the masses. This past show at the Starland Ballroom proved that though times and hairstyles have changed, these bands still have the same raw energy that they started out with. This was my first time seeing Nonpoint and I was incredibly surprised, not by the band but the truly rabid energy given off by the fans. From the minute they took the stage the crowd was fully engaged. Running through their setlist full of favorites like "Generation Idiot", "Bullet With a Name", "El Diablo", the band also added a few songs off of their latest release X including "Fix This", "Chaos and Earthquakes"and  "Dodge Your Destiny". At one point BC Kochmit walked offstage to get himself something from...
