(Concert Review) JINJER with THE BROWNING Live at Spicoli’s Reverb Live Music and Bar Arcade in Waterloo, Iowa (10/24/2019)

It was a mostly packed house at Spicoli's Reverb Live Music and Bar Arcade as Jinjer with special guests The Browning and Sumo Cyco took the stage on this beautiful fall evening.  We were scrambling to get into the venue, and the location was just right for a great metal show. We got in just in time to see Sumo Cyco do their thing, they had a nice cover of "B.Y.O.B." by System of a Down, and they were overall pretty decent live, they won us over with how they interacted with their fans.  My daughter got to meet them and they complimented my daughter on her ballerina dress, they treated her so well, and for that we will always remember Sumo Cyco. The Browning, out of Kansas City, were the next band to take the stage.  The Browning got the crowd moving, pulling off several circle p...

(Concert Review) NEW YEARS DAY Live at Wooly’s in Des Moines, Iowa (9/25/2019)

It was a rather peculiar night of music as New Years Day with special guests Ded and local band Switchblade Saturdays took the Wooly's stage in Des Moines on a Wednesday night.  New Years Day have a couple of songs that busted them on through, and provided a ton of support for Halestorm and In This Moment on several legs of tours this past year, yet it wasn't packed by any stretch of the imagination.  Note to Des Moines, please come out and support live music! Shoutout to Switchblade Saturdays for the set that they put on.  They also had Joey Vice of Motograter fame to help support their live show.  It was cool seeing the lead vocalist on stage for New Years Day set Instagramming the experience.  Local bands take note:  please support your local scene and the bands that you are sharing ...

(Concert Review) THE RED JUMPSUIT APPARATUS with special guests EYES SET TO KILL & NO RESOLVE Live at Lefty’s in Des Moines, Iowa (9/8/2019)

While we love covering the massive shows, there is something to be said about covering a show that is packed in a dive bar, where drinks are a-flowing and everybody is breaking out in a sweat, and seeing a band that is making their comeback along with two bands that should get some major recognition before long.  This is Lefty's in a nutshell for you.  The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus brought their big show feel to little ol' Lefty's with rising stars Eyes Set To Kill and No Resolve.  Approximately 100 people were packed in this little room and Alter Within and Switchblade Saturdays warmed up the crowd for the touring package with their respective brands of rock n roll.  Detroit's own No Resolve was the first band on the touring package to take the stage. Honestly, I had no idea what to expect,...

Editor's Note:  Please check out Amber Lyons Photography on Facebook at www.facebook.com/amberlyons04.  Madness To Creation bringing you the words behind this review and Amber providing the photos.  On Tuesday, August 20th, the Victorious War Tour featuring Skillet & Sevendust with special guests Pop Evil and Devour The Day came to the historic Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa.  This was a most fabulous way to end summer and get back into some semblance of a routine.  The concert was presented by Rock 108 out of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Devour The Day were the first band to come on the bill. Out of Memphis, Tennessee comes the rising band known as Devour The Day.  Fans might know the band as their old namesake, Egypt Central.  They didn't waste anytime with their 20 minute set.  You ...

(Album Review) “Broken In Refraction” by SANCTION

If you want an album that is screaming, in-your-face, all out brutality, then go pick up SANCTION'S debut record entitled "Broken In Refraction", which came out July 26th via Pure Noise Records. From songs such as "The Final Fraction", "Radial Lacerations",  and "Conscious In A Coma", this album is not for the faint of heart, for your grandmother, or for the church choir down the street.  The songs crush spine, paralyze spirits, and leave you in a pool of blood with their hard hitting riffs, insane breakdowns and a vocalist that is relentless. The song "Paralysis" has some early Norma Jean meets early The Amity Affliction and if Wayne Static had anger management issues feel to it.  It is so raw that there's still residue of blood left on the track and the video captures that dark and bro...
