(Concert Therapy Reviews): GREAT WHITE Live at Diamond Jo Casino in Northwood, Iowa (7/17/2021)

It's in the air.  Life is back to a relative normal.  Masks are off, social distancing is ceasing to exist and for an evening, life felt like it was before the Covid pandemic.  Legendary 80's rock band Great White took the stage at the Diamond Jo Casino in Northwood, Iowa this past Saturday. Honestly, I've never been to a show at a casino besides a Michael Jackson impersonator concert at the Stratosphere in Las Vegas.  It was a different vibe going through the lines of slot machines, blackjack tables and video poker machines to get to the Diamond Jo Casino Ballroom.  There was no opening act and Great White came in right as scheduled and didn't waste time by getting into their song "Desert Moon." The crowd was rocking and ready for a night of nostalgia with Great White in this intimate ...

(Concert Therapy Reviews): VIXEN Live at The Landis Theater in Vineland, New Jersey (7/11/2021)

While trying to write this review... all I keep referencing back to in my mind is Lorraine Lewis's use of the term "Hella-cool". If I may be so bold, I'd like to use this word to describe the recent Vixen show I was lucky enough to see. Vixen has been rocking the stages for the past few decades and in their original hey-day I wasn't able to see them. However this time around, that was not the case. Playing recently at the beautiful Landis Theater in Vineland, NJ, I was not going to miss this opportunity. Local NJ Cat Manning opened up the show. I was unfamiliar with her work before hearing her at this show. But I have to say WHAT A TALENT. Cat has a great voice- powerful, expressive and she can really belt out a tune. She has the kind of voice which makes people take notice. A little bit ...

(Concert Reviews): STYX Live at Five Flags Event Center in Dubuque, Iowa (7/3/2021)

How does one encapsulate a 40 plus year career into one evening?  Especially when that band has had historical accomplishments such as playing the pre-game show of Super Bowl XXXV, had a moon named after them by NASA themselves, and have sold millions of records, had chart topping singles and continue to release critically acclaimed albums such as their most recent effort "Crash of the Crown?"  I mean, what else needs to be said about Styx.  They continue to wow audiences and they delivered an amazing performance at the Five Flags Event Center in Dubuque, Iowa on Saturday, July 3rd. After I got through the gate, I stood there for a moment and just took in the atmosphere that we've all dearly missed due to the Covid pandemic.  It was like people took their problems and concerns and caste...

(Concert Review): The Welcome Back New York Concert featuring THE VELVICKS & FAT HEAVEN- East Riverbank Amphitheater in New York, New York (6/12/2021)

After many long and arduous months it's starting to appear that the world is getting back to "normal". People are outside cycling, barbequing, lounging in the sun and live music is finally putting it's feet into the wading pool to test the waters. This past Saturday LAUNCH featured a small, free and very intimate concert in New York City's East River Ampitheater featuring The Velvicks and Fat Heaven. If you're not familiar with either band, that's ok. I wasn't very familiar with them either not too long ago. First up was Fat Heaven who's pop punk energy rivalled that of a young Green Day. Their songs were catchy and downright FUN. Their set was short, as were most of the songs- but their sound was good. One of the best tunes of the day was Crybaby. Check out their  Bandcamp ...

Madness To Creation Podcast Ep. 41: Minutes of Creative Madness: “Break The Cycle 20th Anniversary” by STAIND

Welcome to the Madness To Creation Podcast: where self-care and music merge.  Here we are reviewing the 20th Anniversary Livestream of "Break The Cycle" by Staind and this showed me that Staind will always be the straw that stirs the drink in the hard rock/nu-metal world.   The presentation of the livestream was professional and stellar.  I really enjoyed the stories that Aaron Lewis, Mike Mushok, Johnny April and Sal Giancarelli brought to the table, especially about the song "Outside" being debuted on the Family Values Tour in Biloxi, Mississippi.  The performance was in an abandoned warehouse and it really showed Staind as the "everyman" band as the band was decked out in t-shirts and jeans, and Aaron's trademark baseball hat as well.  The band sounded like they're back and passi...

(Mental Health Conversations): Madness To Creation Podcast Ep. 9: Joshua Humlie of WE THREE , plus “Dear Paranoia The Virtual Show Livestream Review

Editor's Note:  It was an absolutely lovely conversation that Madness To Creation Podcast had with Joshua Humlie of We Three.  Joshua is the drummer/keyboardist/programming extraordinaire for this sibling trio out of Oregon.  It has been beyond impressive to see them grow from their showstopping performance on America's Got Talent, which led to a deep run in 2018 on that show, to seeing them on stage once again for the "Dear Paranoia Virtual Show", which took place on January 23rd.  Fans got to have the option to enjoy the livestream show along with a Q&A session with the band.   The performance felt like I was actually there and it overwhelmed me.  As someone who was just getting familiar with their music and after having this amazing conversation with Joshua, I felt connected ...

(Livestream Review): “Carry The Fire Part 2: Lead Sails + Paper Anchor” by ATREYU

"Lead Sails + Paper Anchor" by Atreyu was THE album that got them noticed in the mainstream rock world.  The song "Becoming The Bull" was featuring in the Madden '08 video game and was also used to promote commercials for UFC on Spike TV.  The album peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 and was the No. 1 album on the Billboard Rock charts.  The song "Falling Down" peaked at No.3 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart.  According to Brandon Saller on the livestream, "Lead Sails + Paper Anchor" was the first album to break into the mainstream rock charts. The livestream performance brought new life to their classic album.  The band just feels fresh with having Brandon Saller take over on vocals while "Porter" brings about the "anchor" with his unclean vocals.  Songs such as "Doomsday", "Fa...
