MTC’s Throwback Reviews From Bands Listed in A-Z Lyrics

Every day, well almost every day, I am going to look back and going in alphabetical order from A to Z. I will go through, sometimes via video, sometimes print, and offer my take on the band/recording artist, and offer the following:
Moment that changed their career
Moment that was awesome for them
Moment that sucked for them,
Etc. Etc. Etc.

(Throwback Review) “Dig Deep” by AFTER THE BURIAL

This deathcore/djent band out of Minneapolis, Minnesota has been turning heads in the underground world from the inception.  AFTER THE BURIAL has been through a lot from various lineup changes as well as their guitarist Justin Lore's untimely death due to his battles with schizophrenia.  However, they keep pressing on, and in 2016, they released their aptly appropriate album "Dig Deep" via Sumerian Records.  This album would also be the final stint for bassist Lee Foral as he left the band after this album. After The Burial tapped Will Putney(For Today, The Acacia Strain, Body Count) for this record, and this record showcased a newfound focus despite losing Justin Lore.  After The Burial certainly had to "dig deep" in this record as they try to make sense of tragedy, make sense of the que...

(Throwback Review) “Never Going Back To OK” by THE AFTERS

In the peak MySpace era, a Christian Rock group made Christian music palatable with their authentic music and being the answer to mainstream groups such as Switchfoot and Coldplay, and that group was Texas' own The Afters.  Back in 2008, The Afters reached the pinnacle of their success with their Dove-award winning album "Never Going Back To OK". "Never Going Back To OK" is full of guitar pop and tasty harmony in the vocals possessed by frontman/guitarist Josh Havens, with Matt Fuqua and Brad Wigg providing the harmony in the background vocals.  They were riding a wave of success due to their MTV classic "Beautiful Love" and they were also featured on the hit television show American Idol with the song "We Are The Sound". Their music is accessible to all audiences, Christian or secul...

(Throwback Review) “After Forever” by AFTER FOREVER

This was the album that was supposed to send Netherlands' own AFTER FOREVER into the stratosphere back in 2007.  They released their self-titled album via Nuclear Blast Records on April 23th, 2007 in Europe and on September 28th, 2007 in the United States.  This album featured the powerful vocals of the one and only Floor Jansen, who one might know in her stint with Nightwish and in her current band ReVamp, along with another guitarist who would help create the underground metal sensation Epica. After Forever's self-titled album would chart at No. 6 in the Billboard 200 charts in the Netherlands and would also chart in Belgium, Germany, and France.  The vocals was a nice blending between the operatic vocals of Floor Jansen mixed in with the death growls of the background vocals.  The sy...

(Throwback Review) “After 7” by AFTER 7

I argue that this was the album that catapulted Kevon Edmonds career, as him and his brother Melvin along with his song Jason would join in.  Keith Mitchell was in the group before Jason Edmonds joined the R&B group. This self-titled album by After 7 was released on August 22nd, 1989 and would go platinum for selling over one million copies on November 27th, 1990.  This album was jam packed full of fun. This album is just chocked full of tasty jams that makes the club scene hopping, while they are on point with their singing.  The thing is, this self-titled release by After 7 had songs that were full of class and would make the ladies swoon over their vocals.  They had emotion in their lyrics and in their voices, which seems to be devoid in today's pop music.  This album included tw...

(Throwback Album Review) “The Good Times” by AFROMAN

Back in August 28th, 2001, Afroman released his compilation album entitled "The Good Times".  This album featured the smash hits "Because I Got High" and "Crazy Rap", while peaking at number 9 on the Billboard 200, and the album was certified gold according to Billboard. The songs primarily talked about growing up in the ghetto of East Palmdale.  The songs are quite tongue-in-cheek, about smoking that devil's lettuce, and having this seemingly constant to hook up with girls.  "Because I Got High" and "Crazy Rap" caused Afroman to have a career based on those two songs alone. "Because I Got High" got its break thanks to the rise of the Internet and being featured on the "Howard Stern Show".  The song talked about the negative effects of how smoking marijuana hindered the quality of li...

(Throwback Review) Reviewing AFROJACK and Learning About AFROJACK!

From website designer to DJ, Dutch-born Nick van de Wall aka Afrojack, has consistently scored in the top ten in DJ Magazine's annual top 100 DJ list and has been nominated for numerous awards for MTV Europe Music Awards.  He made it as a celebrity by having a six month relationship with Paris Hilton and is engaged to Italian singer Elettra Lamborghini.   He also closed out an incredible year by debuting new music at Tomorrowland in Belgium and having two New Year's Eve parties in Los Angeles and San Bernardino, California.  I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Afrojack will claim the number one spot on the top 100 list to close out 2019.  Let's talk about a couple of his smash videos. The first video I'm going to talk about is his smash video "Hey Mama", which features David Guet...

(EP Review) “Afrowave 2” by AFRO B (Throwback Review)

On July 6th, 2018, Afro B released his breakthrough EP entitled "Afrowave 2".  If you want something different for your New Year's party, then this EP is worth spinning at your party! There has been somewhat of a breakthrough in Afrobeat music in the United Kingdom.  In fact, this EP includes the smash hit "Drogba(Joanna)", in which the lyric video has over 34 million hits on YouTube.  Afro B will certainly continue to be leading the charge in the world of Afrobeat music for the foreseeable future. The bits are so chill and draws plenty from African beats and culture in the music.  Afro B does a masterful job of creating songs that get stuck in your head while creating those infectious beats that seem to find that balance of getting your grind on at the club with chilling at that aft...

(Throwback Review) “Decemberunderground” by AFI

It was the 2000's and there was this rabid fanbase called "The Church of Havok" that seemed to crave AFI and their brand of emo/post-hardcore brand of music.  People identified with AFI's music and I thought in this throwback section, what better way to commemorate AFI than to review "Decemberunderground", which was released in June of 2006. AFI promoted this album with "Charlotte's Mystery" private shows in New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.  Here are a few cool facts about the album:  Ralph Seanz aka Michael Starr(Steel Panther) provided background vocals for two songs on "Decemberunderground"  "Love Like Winter" was a major hit on MTV's Total Request Live show, which was retired after 40 consecutive days in the top ten.  On January 20th, 2007, AFI performed "Mi...
