Ryan Kirby, Vocalist of Fit for a King, discusses Christianity, “Dead Memory” and The Paris Attacks

Contributor's Note:  It was a cold blustery night in Des Moines and I was not feeling good while battling the flu.  Ryan was absolutely a kind, gracious person in this interview, and I really appreciate him taking the time with me to discuss God, Fit for a King, that fateful night in Paris, and "Deathgrip", along with other fun topics.  Check out Fit for a King on Facebook at www.facebook.com/fitforakingband and www.twitter.com/fitforaking and follow them on Instagram at www.instagram.com/fitforakingtx.  Go to their official website at www.fitforaking.com to pick up a copy of "Deathgrip" via Solid State Records.  Without further delay, here's my conversation with Ryan Kirby, vocalist for Fit for a King! Madness To Creation:  Tell me who you are and what you do in the band. Ryan:  I am ...

“Revolution on Repeat” by Troubled Horse, gritty and dirty never felt so good!

A light with a chain is hanging from the garage that smells of gasoline, dew from the trees, and rotting wood.  The band hooks in their amps, equipment, and sets up their stage.  They envision throwing down in front of thousands of people in an auditorium all the while playing for their neighborhood, although the neighborhood doesn't realize that they're in on the garage rock jam session.  My readers, this is what Orebro, Sweden's own Troubled Horse is about! On March 31st, Troubled Horse will be releasing their latest offering entitled "Revolution On Repeat" via Rise Above Records.  This blistering album offers ten tracks and it's an offering that isn't confined to one box. "Revolution On Repeat" takes you back to the early days of hard-rock/heavy metal ala Iron Butterly, Mountain, Deep...

“Beyond Spectra” by Saturn, taking it back!

On March 31st, 1977, Swedish rock/metal heavyweights Saturn will be releasing their latest offering entitled "Beyond Spectra". Did I say 1977?  Well, I'm wondering myself because I think Saturn took me on a time machine back to that time period where bellbottoms were hip and there becomes an increasing division in music between classic rock vs. disco.  Saturn seems to have been hanging out in the heavy metal parking lot after a blistering set from Judas Priest from the "Sad Wings" era with special guests UFO. Rebellion, intergalactic missions, and taking the listener through the 1970's metal is the mission that Saturn takes its listeners and fans on with "Beyond Spectra", which will be released via Rise Above Records.  This time capsule takes you to the opening cut entitled "Orbital Miss...

“Tyhjyys” by Wolfheart, expansion of horizons!

Out of the cold blustery Finnish winters is a band that is overdue to not only tear up Scandinavia, but tear up Europe, create blizzard like conditions across the Atlantic Ocean, but to freeze over North America with their winter metal, that band is Wolfheart! On March 3rd, Wolfheart released their latest offering entitled "Tyhjyys".  The word "Tyhjyys" is Finnish for "emptiness", and while this record is dark, bleak, and with touches of doom, it really showcases how Wolfheart has expanded their horizons as opposed to their previous offering entitled "Shadow World". There is a ton more progression in "Tyhjyys", in which each track seems to encapsulate the culture of winter metal and encapsulate a story as well based upon the arrangements of the instruments and the storytelling that maste...

“Life” by Dead Horse Trauma, come get you some!

Out of Des Moines, Iowa comes a band that is more than ready to melt faces and take no prisoners while doing so.  That band is Dead Horse Trauma! Dead Horse Trauma is composed of Eric Davidson on vocals, Seth Peters on guitars, Jayson Kempf on guitars, Brian Carter on bass, and Garrett DeWald on drums.  Watching this band evolve over the years from being that local band that is opening for smaller national touring acts on the local stage to a band that is plotting for global domination makes a person feel like they're a part of something special. The DIY-band has had "Life" out for an entire month!  They literally slept, ate, and breathed this record while putting up with each other for an entire week, and did their commitment and hard work in "Life" pay off! If you want a killer track ...
Carry The Flame Tour featuring After The Burial Slays Iowa!

Carry The Flame Tour featuring After The Burial Slays Iowa!

This past Saturday, Minneapolis based band After The Burial came to tear it up at Wooly's in Des Moines, Iowa.  It was a night of people packed in a sweaty club and people craving a great night of metal music. It was a night where the sub-genres of metal were also highlighted during this tour. Tragic Hero Records band Invent, Animate took the stage!  At first, they seemed a bit out of place for opening up the "Carry The Flame" tour with a band that is known for its sweeping guitar solos and intense breakdowns, however, Invent, Animate did a great job of trying to engage the audience.  Admittingly so, it was a tough night for them, although they did have their niche for an audience.  Their ambiance and screaming vocal styles brought me back to the Underoath days.  Overall, a quality set fr...

“Moth” by Emperors And Elephants: Outpouring of Emotions Into This Effort!

This past summer, I remember seeing Emperors And Elephants at a festival in Iowa called Loco Fest, which was taking place in Algona, Iowa.  Little did I know that it would be guitarist Jeff Windisch's second to last show.  They killed it in the blistering sun on that evening while providing direct support for Another Lost Year and Eve 6.  Little did the audience of several hundred know that the next day, Jeff Windisch would tragically pass away via a massive heart attack at a concert in Savage, Minnesota after the band opened for Lynch Mob.  On March 17th, the Chicago, Illinois band is releasing "Moth" via Pavement Entertainment! Talk about a mature growth from the band in comparison to their previous effort, "Devil In The Lake".  I can tell that they decided to listen to some Alice In Ch...
