(Highlight Reel): Juno Award Winning Alt-Rockers DEAR ROUGE Educates Us on Social Media Usage with “Fake Fame”

Editor's Note:  Here at Scholastic Perspectives, we'll be examining social media usage and its impact on students coming up.  As an educator, one thing I've noticed is missing is the lack of digital citizenship that is being taught towards our students.  Because of this, students aren't socialized like they should be and major cyberbullying issues arise because of the lack of digital citizenship in the curriculum.  As educators, we need to realize that cell phones are here to stay and we need to adapt, and that's teaching students how to interact appropriately on their cell phones.  Also, set aside times to put away the cell phone and be present, especially when you're with loved ones, nature, or at concerts and other forms of entertainment.  In this highlight reel with Scholastic Perspect...

(Mental Health Conversations): Adam Binder of DEARIST/HOMECAMP

Editor's Note:  For those in the indie/emo underground scene, Dearist is a household name.  Sometimes an individual needs to start something fresh in a completely different genre, and this is where Homecamp comes into play.  Out of United Kingdom, Homecamp have released a mini-album entitled "Did We Return As Something Else" via Wiretap Records.  The mini-album includes the music videos and singles for "Thoughts Of You" and "Two Doves".  This is the kind of record where you turn off the lights in your bedroom, put your headphones on(or airpods for you Generation Z folk) and just close your eyes and take in the ambiance that is composed by Homecamp.  In this mental health conversation with Madness To Creation, Adam Binder of Dearist/Homecamp discusses "Did We Return As Something Else", the ...

(Mental Health Conversations): LINDSAY KOLSCH, Co-Director of TO WRITE LOVE ON HER ARMS

Editor's Note:  It was such an incredible conversation with a woman that I look up to, and that is Lindsay Kolsch.  Lindsay Kolsch is the co-director for a mental health organization that is near and dear to our hearts called "To Write Love On Her Arms".  Their focus is having a platform that deals with the issues of self-harm and suicide prevention.  This week, they are launching for National Suicide Prevention Week "Worth Living For".  "Worth Living For" is written by Levi The Poet and Lindsay wanted to share these words to talk about the meaning behind this campaign for National Suicide Prevention Week: "This year has been hard for so many people - disruption and disconnection, uncertainty and changes - have become a part of our everyday lives. We know that people need other people a...

Elaine Rasnake Converses with Evan of Madness To Creation on Being DIY and The Postal Service!

Contributor's Note:   Elaine Rasnake is one of the most exciting indie/electronic artists in Philly.  In addition to rocking the DIY scene her music is finding a home online among fans of Grimes, Slyvan Esso, and Neon Indian.  Fans can find Elaine Rasnake at the following locations: www.facebook.com/elainerasnake www.elainerasnake.com -What were some of the challenges of recording, mixing, and mastering an album all yourself?   The hardest part was having that lack of a second or third set of ears to make sure I was making the best musical and engineering choices. After a while, listening to your own voice over and over can become very tiring if you’re not used to it. It was also tricky to keep deadlines when working this way since I was the only one holding myself accountabl...

“Closure” by Adna, fragile yet powerful!

Out of Sweden is a songstress that showcases a sense of authenticity that is extremely refreshing in the singer/songwriter genre, and this woman has all the potential in the world to break out on the world stage, and that woman is Adna. On March 17th, 2017, Adna released her third album entitled "Closure", which is a follow-up to her critically acclaimed record entitled "Run Lucifer".  Adna seems to have taken the concept of this woeful culture that everything is meaningless and that we all have that little bit of darkness and despair in our lives that we tend to pack away into the depths of our souls and she has stripped her soul bare and created one of the most beautiful, yet wonderfully broken albums that I have heard in a long time. Adna has sang for human rights at international con...
