(Album Review) “Lamb Of God” by LAMB OF GOD

The new self-titled release from Lamb Of God is the first in five years and also sees the debut of their new drummer, Art Cruz. Two decades ago, the quintet from Virginia erupted into the metal scene and grew into the household name they hold today. The new album explores the evolution of their sound with varying styles presented throughout their tracks. The haunting opening to Memento Mori introduces the dark, demonic side to their sound. The simple guitar lead, low vocals and eerie ghost like backing vocals create a mood reminiscent of Gothic horror before erupting into full instrumentation and harsh vocals. The theatrics of this intro bring something different; it’s not necessarily the opening to an album you might expect. Checkmate continues their heavy sound with powerful distorted...

Trevor Phipps of Unearth Converses with Madness To Creation on Poker Tips, Remembering Vinnie Paul, and America’s Screwed Up Environmental Policies!

Editor's Note:  Let me tell you, this was one of the most chill interviews I have ever done.  Trevor Phipps of Unearth was like a long lost friend that I reconnected with.  Unearth was getting ready to dominate the Vans Warped Tour and we talked about everything from games on smartphones, to Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell, to even Donald Trump's skewed environmental policies.  Unearth's single "Incinerate" recently hit number one on "The Devil's Dozen" via Liquid Metal.  Fans can find Unearth at the following locations: Madness To Creation:  (As Trevor is finishing up with a game on his smartphone), What kind of video games do you like to play? Trevor:  Not much of a gamer, but on the road, I like to play games.  I'll show you, (pulls out his phone), it's Clash Royale, it's like Cla...

(Album Review) “Firepower” by Judas Priest

The long-awaited and highly anticipated release of the the 18th full-length album from Judas Priest comes in the shadow of the sad discovery regarding Glenn Tipton's health condition. The good news is that “Firepower” is a very successful attempt by the Metal Legends to revisit their past glory with a modern sound. The band unleashes a searing and blazing attack from the first notes and the title track along with "Lightning Strike" constitute a jaw-dropping 1-2 to start the album, firing on all cylinders. "Evil Never Dies" is a thrashy character that would fit nicely somewhere inside the New Jersey thrashers' discography. "Necromancer", "Spectre" and "Traitors Gate" are metal anthems with face-smashing guitars and possessed vocals. "Never The Heroes" and "No Surrender" have this 1980s vib...

Madness To Creation Sounding Off: Never Forgetting Warped Tour Because of Amazing Vocalists, like Ashley Costello of New Years Day!

The second part of the "Looking Back on Warped Tour" series features New Years Day and Ashley Costello.  It is absolutely not every day where a frontperson simply captivates one's attention through their stage presence and vocals.  Ashley Costello of New Years Day certainly did that with her mesmerizing stage presence and her amazingly beautiful looks along with a versatile voice that sounded sweet and serene in one breath, and sounded shrilling in the next breath.  New Years Day had a crazy stage presence combining their gothic look, crazy stage antics, and the ability to hold the audience in the palm of their hand. I also saw New Years Day open up for Halestorm and Starset on the "Halloween Scream" tour, and while I was into them, some of the audience weren't into them, then again Iowa ...

Madness To Creation Sounding Off: Looking Back at 2017 Warped Tour Part One: Featuring Hatebreed!

The old tried and true saying goes is that "all good things must come to an end".  It was recently announced that after 2018, Kevin Lyman was going to discontinue the Warped Tour.  My heart sank into my stomach after I read the news on Alternative Press.  The thing is, the Vans Warped Tour was the festival of all festivals to me.  It allowed fans to check out many different genres of music, heck pop singers such as Katy Perry and hip-hop artists such as 3OH!3 were embraced at the Warped Tour.  The Vans Warped Tour had a sense of unity there where it didn't matter what style of music, what background you were, or even what political or religious belief you had, you were accepted simply for who you are.  I am pretty sure that was what Kevin's vision was.  I am going to make this a several pa...

Madness To Creation’s A to Z Throwback Reviews: Featuring The Acacia Strain!

This year has been a pretty darn solid year for Massachusetts(and Iowa's own) The Acacia Strain, who has had their fifth consecutive album charted in the Billboard 200 and had a great run with the Vans Warped Tour this year.  The Acacia Strain is prepared to embark on an Australian tour with Kublai Khan, and is riding the wave of success off of "Gravebloom". The Acacia Strain has seen band member changes, however, Vincent Bennett remains the constant in the band as the founder and vocalist of the band since 2001.  The Acacia Strain is also composed of Griffin Landa(formerly of Too Pure To Die) on bass, Devin Shidaker(formerly of Oceano) on guitars, Kevin Boutot on drums, and Tom Smith, Jr. on rhythm guitar.  They would initially sign a record contract with The Devil's Head and release the...
