(The Don’s Hit List with The Don & The Grizz Ep. 201): Richard Black of SHARK ISLAND

Contributor's Note:  Richard Black of the legendary Sunset Strip band Shark Island appeared on The Don's Hit List with The Don & The Grizz for the 201st episode via FAB Radio International.  In this episode, Richard discusses playing live in Los Angeles at the Sunset Strip and having to compete amongst a sea(no pun intended) of bands with very limited venue space in Los Angeles.  In 1989, Shark Island signed to Epic Records and released their debut album entitled "Law of the Order", which featured the amazing songs "Dangerous" and "Father Time".  The aforementioned songs were featured in the legendary movie Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and the song "My City" was featured in the movie "Point Break".  After Shark Island, Richard would be in the short-lived supergroup Contraba...

(Concert Review) LA GUNS featuring PHIL LEWIS & TRACII GUNS Live at Le Poisson Rouge in New York, New York (11/10/2019)

It was a wild night of nostalgia, loud guitars, and a great crowd for a Sunday night as L.A. Guns featuring Phil Lewis and Tracii Guns headlined with special guests Wildstreet and Venrez at Le Poisson Rouge in New York, New York.  Venrez was the first to take the stage. Venrez was the first band to take the stage.  The band is composed of Ven on vocals, Jason Womack on bass, Victor Singer on drums and Gabe Maska on guitars.  The band showcases well thought out lyrics and arrangements that that have messages that people can take to heart. The guitars that Maska plays are the driving force of the band as the band serves as a nice warm-up for L.A. Guns tonight.  Check out songs such as "Hang The Predator", "Children of the Drones" and "Devil's Due" on YouTube.  Fans can find Venrez at www....

(Concert Review) TESLA with special guests VOICES OF EXTREME & BAD MARRIAGE Live at The Paramount in Huntington, New York (9/17/2019)

It was a wild night of hair-metal music and nostalgia as one of the most talented bands out of the genre, Tesla ripped through their brand of hair-metal at The Paramount in Huntington, New York.  Regional metal mainstays Voices of Extreme and Bad Marriage served as special guests on this night of music.  Boston's own Bad Marriage kicked off the raucous night of music. Bad Marriage is composed of Jon Paquin on vocals, Mike Fitz on guitar, Ian Haggerty on guitar, Todd Boisvert on bass, and Michael Delaney on drums.  The band did a great job with their boogie-woogie style of rock as they incorporated a lot of fun and swagger with dashes of sleaze into their music.  Along with their songs and stage presence, they did an exciting rendition of "Walkin' The Dog" by Aerosmith.  They will be ope...

(Concert Review) DIO RETURNS Live at The Myth in Maplewood, Minnesota (6/15/2019)

It was a rainy night at The Myth in Maplewood, Minnesota, which was appropo for this evening as the fans at The Myth in Maplewood, Minnesota turned out to see Dio Returns live on this rainy night.  This night was essentially a tribute to legendary metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio, who lost his battle to stomach cancer about five years ago.  EyeIlusion presented Dio in holographic form and the original members of Dio, with the exception of the bass player who is in Dio Disciples commanded the stage on this night with special guest Jizzy Pearl's Love/Hate.  Jizzy Pearl's Love/Hate was the first to take the stage. What a solid opening band that Jizzy Pearl's Love/Hate was.  They commanded the stage and Jizzy Pearl has a voice that can belt it.  It's plain to see why he was involved as a mem...

(Single Review) “It’s Christmas Time Again” by THE FORTY NINETEENS!

It is that time of the year where families and friends are gathered around to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year.  Temacula, California's own The Forty Nineteens are leading the Yuletide festivities with their recently released single entitled "It's Christmas Time Again". The Forty Nineteens bring the pizzazz, fun, and unique arrangements(with a little spiked eggnog) to this Christmas party.  Their arrangements are pretty unique in the sense that it sounds like it's spanning the decades.  Where it sounds like The Smithereens, Echo and the Bunnymen, and The E Street Band(of Bruce Springsteen fame) all had a baby and birthed The Forty Nineteens.  The Forty Nineteens have also shared the stage with The Fleshtones, L.A. Guns, Gilby Clarke, and Gin Blossoms. "It's Christmas Tim...

Gemini Syndrome Tears Down Iowa!

There is something that is definitely need to be said about just taking over at a club in the Midwest.  Especially when a well-known, well-respected band that is becoming a major influence in the mainstream rock world does this simply because they want to be on a stage.  That's exactly what Gemini Syndrome did as they rocked Spicoli's Rockade in Waterloo, Iowa.  Local acts High Point, Montra Nova, and The Rumours also had their time to shine on the Spicoli's stage.  High Point was the first band to take the stage. High Point is a four-piece band out of New Hampton, Iowa.  They are composed of Colton Kirby, Bryan Hauser, Michael Bouska, and Ben Larson.  They are a band that should not be slept on in the local scene as they offer a unique blend of gritty rock, blues, a bit of funk, and a ...
