(Concert Review) NEW YEARS DAY Live at Wooly’s in Des Moines, Iowa (9/25/2019)

It was a rather peculiar night of music as New Years Day with special guests Ded and local band Switchblade Saturdays took the Wooly's stage in Des Moines on a Wednesday night.  New Years Day have a couple of songs that busted them on through, and provided a ton of support for Halestorm and In This Moment on several legs of tours this past year, yet it wasn't packed by any stretch of the imagination.  Note to Des Moines, please come out and support live music! Shoutout to Switchblade Saturdays for the set that they put on.  They also had Joey Vice of Motograter fame to help support their live show.  It was cool seeing the lead vocalist on stage for New Years Day set Instagramming the experience.  Local bands take note:  please support your local scene and the bands that you are sharing ...

Razorwire Halo Converses with Madness To Creation on David Hasselhoff, Sweat, Dystopia, and Human Nature

Editor's Note:  It was a great night at Lifers in Algona as Kansas City regional touring band Razorwire Halo was sharing the stage with Motograter.  Razorwire Halo brings unique concepts to their music, ranging from graphic novel ideas to dystopia to cryogenic concept in their music.  When I watched their live show, it reminded me of Celldweller meets mid 1990's Marilyn Manson.  Razorwire Halo has recently released their music video for "Sweat", which you can check out after this interview.  Fans can find Razorwire Halo at the following locations: www.facebook.com/razorwirehalomusic www.razorwirehalo.com Madness To Creation:  Just tell me who you are and what you do in the band. Rob:  My name is Rob and I'm the touring guitarist. Darrell:  My name is Darryl and I'm the guita...

Nuke and Aeon of Motograter Converses with Madness To Creation on Ivan Moody, Desolation, and Working with Megadeth

Editor's Note:  It was a solid night of rock in Iowa as Motograter was about to deliver their blistering set in front of the Lifer's audience in Algona, Iowa.  Motograter is known for their tribal warpaint, their live set that engages the audience, and the band that had Ivan Moody of Five Finger Death Punch as a frontman first.  It is no secret that there have been a few lineup changes over the years, however, Motograter is moving forward, contrary to what the naysayers might say in regards to that.  In 2017, Motograter released their latest record entitled "Desolation" via EMP Label Group, which is headed by David Ellefson of Megadeth.  This will be one of the first interviews where their newly recruited bass player known as Aeon Cruz was involved, and original member Nuke is in this inte...

“1711” by Katastrophes Tomb, raw bludgeoning power!

After recently seeing their set when they opening for The Acacia Strain during their one-off show before embarking on the Vans Warped Tour, I became further intrigued with this band.  It was an intense live show that was highly engaging for the packed house at the Vaudeville Mews.  This band is known as Katastrophes Tomb, and on July 21st, they have released their EP entitled "1711" via Reverb Nation, Bandcamp, and SoundCloud. Katastrophes Tomb is composed of Vincent Venn on vocals, Taylor Soloman on drums, Brian Lundy on guitars, Curtis Coleone on bass, and Joe Youngbear on guitars.  This year alone, Katastrophes Tomb has shared the stage with the likes of the aforementioned The Acacia Strain, Flaw, Psychostick, Motograter, Mushroomhead, Madame Mayhem, and American Head Charge.  They a...

“Abominate The World Tour” featuring Doyle and Davey Suicide Leaves Iowa for Dead!

There is something to be said about a living legend in the punk/metal world when they come to an intimate venue such as Spicoli's Rockade in Waterloo, Iowa that leaves a lasting impression on the audience.  Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein left a trail of corpses due to his slaying of the guitar as his band Doyle, which also features Alex Story of Cancerslug to abominate Spicoli's Rockade with their brand of punk meets metal. I cannot say enough cool things about Spicoli's Rockade.  It brings me back to a sense of nostalgia where one would go to the local arcade at the mall and needlessly spend hours at the arcade machines trying to beat a game.  Stand-up arcade games have a flair about them, and that is there is a social aspect, there is few sounds in the world like the pinball machine, e...

“Discord” by Dirty Machine, for nu-metal fans out there!

Out of Los Angeles, California is a band that is developing a solid fanbase because of their nostalgic ways in the nu-metal genre.  Dirty Machine has received some solid press over the past several weeks with their video entitled "Discord", some friendly reviews and some not-so-friendly reviews.  They have also met Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit, which to me is all about making connections in the business. Dirty Machine has also shared the stage with the likes of Ghost, Sixx AM, Disturbed, Trivium, Hell Yeah, Alien Ant Farm, Otep, Metalachi, and Orgy. On May 26th, Dirty Machine is releasing "Discord" via Zombie Shark Records.  Zombie Shark Records is the new label from Noah "Shark" Robertson of Motograter/The Browning fame. "Discord" starts off with the title track.  It has the nu-metal flavor...
