(Concert Review) “20th Anniversary Wisconsin Death Trip Tour” featuring STATIC-X Live at Sony Hall in New York, New York (11/24/2019)

It was an absolutely crazy night of metal and remembrance of one Wayne Static as Static-X with special guests Wednesday 13, Dope and Raven Black took the stage at Sony Hall in New York City this past Sunday night.   Raven Black kicked off the night with their somewhat demonic and twisted set of their Marilyn Manson meets a fucked-up carnival kind of rock.  The band's lead singer looks like she belongs as Sister Abigail from Bray Wyatt's Firefly Funhouse while the rest of the band looks like extras from a horror movie set.  With songs such as their latest single "He Is The One" along with "Dollhouse" and "Sticks and Stones", Raven Black definitely warmed up the night for the next band on the bill.  Wednesday 13 also took the stage on this Sunday night.   Wednesday 13 broug...

Powerman 5000 Still Has IT After All These Years!

Lineup changes, persona changes, and still killing it after all these years is how many people would describe hard rock legends Powerman 5000.  The Dudley Boys have used Powerman 5000 for entrance music in WWE, their music has been featured in video games, tv shows, and the like, and people still remember them for their colossal smash "When Worlds Collide".  Powerman 5000 brought their "New Wave" tour to Spicoli's Grill in Waterloo, Iowa. Earlier that day, Spider One, the esteemed frontman of Powerman 5000, conducted a radio interview with Rock 108.  In that interview, Spider One stated that he still can't believe that people still come out to see them and jump and mosh to their music after all these years.  It was plain to see why with their blistering set in front of a packed room at Sp...

(Video Review) “Behind the Sun” by Gabriel and the Apocalypse

Gabriel and the Apocalypse have been flying under the radar with their sensual mix of goth rock, industrial, and pure full-on attitude and sex appeal in their music.  Their music, while appearing seductive in the music videos, always brings profound issues to life.  For example in "Thrill For The Kill", while appearing to be glorifying the BDSM lifestyle, Gabriel and the Apocalypse bring about the issue of animal abuse and animal testing when it comes to the products that we buy.  In "Behind the Sun" Gabriel and the Apocalypse certainly bring another issue to light. Lyrical Content/Arrangement Content:  The song has quite a melancholy feel to it.  Gabriel and the Apocalypse brings about the issue of loneliness and depression when it comes to destructive relationships.  The song seems to h...

“1711” by Katastrophes Tomb, raw bludgeoning power!

After recently seeing their set when they opening for The Acacia Strain during their one-off show before embarking on the Vans Warped Tour, I became further intrigued with this band.  It was an intense live show that was highly engaging for the packed house at the Vaudeville Mews.  This band is known as Katastrophes Tomb, and on July 21st, they have released their EP entitled "1711" via Reverb Nation, Bandcamp, and SoundCloud. Katastrophes Tomb is composed of Vincent Venn on vocals, Taylor Soloman on drums, Brian Lundy on guitars, Curtis Coleone on bass, and Joe Youngbear on guitars.  This year alone, Katastrophes Tomb has shared the stage with the likes of the aforementioned The Acacia Strain, Flaw, Psychostick, Motograter, Mushroomhead, Madame Mayhem, and American Head Charge.  They a...

“Abominate The World Tour” featuring Doyle and Davey Suicide Leaves Iowa for Dead!

There is something to be said about a living legend in the punk/metal world when they come to an intimate venue such as Spicoli's Rockade in Waterloo, Iowa that leaves a lasting impression on the audience.  Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein left a trail of corpses due to his slaying of the guitar as his band Doyle, which also features Alex Story of Cancerslug to abominate Spicoli's Rockade with their brand of punk meets metal. I cannot say enough cool things about Spicoli's Rockade.  It brings me back to a sense of nostalgia where one would go to the local arcade at the mall and needlessly spend hours at the arcade machines trying to beat a game.  Stand-up arcade games have a flair about them, and that is there is a social aspect, there is few sounds in the world like the pinball machine, e...
