Jeff Buehner of THE LOYAL ORDER/ROUGH CUTT Discusses “Ready For Dead”, Signing with EMP Label Group & Writing Process with Mark Dean for Madness To Creation

Contributor's Note:  The Loyal Order first hatched as a studio project several years ago in Portland, when Jeff Buehner was approached to write a theme song for a regional outdoor hunting reality show.  He reached out to guitarist Brandon Cook for a heavy riff, and the result was a song called Off the Grid (Superhuman).  It aired regionally in the Pacific NW for two seasons. A bassist by trade, singing is a new beginning for Jeff.  The songs were originally crafted with a different vocalist in mind, but after laying scratch tracks for the first few songs, the producer convinced him to lay the final tracks himself.    From this songwriting partnership between Buehner and Cook, the songs began to flow. They soon approached Producer Rob Daiker at The Commune in Portland, Oregon, who has...

(Concert Review) QUEENSRYCHE live at Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey (2/15/2020)

The verdict is in, Queensryche  still rocks after all these years. After a tumultuous decade, they have entered 2020 with a renewed energy and vigor. This past Saturday night I experienced the new live stage show for this year’s Verdict tour. And I have to say I was most impressed. Opening support for the band on this run is NYC rockers Eve to Adam with direct support coming from guitarist extraordinaire, the one and only John 5.   Eve to Adam hit the stage with their high-energy brand of hard rock full force. I saw the crowd respond to them very positively. Though there was a faction who weren’t familiar with the band and their songs, they were very easy to get into. Their songs had good grooves with powerful vocals. Though their set was short, the crowd really got into the mat...

(Concert Review) HELLYEAH Live at The Apollo Theatre in Belvidere, Illinois (11/26/2019)

Thirty minutes after doors open, there is still a long line of fans waiting to get in. The freezing rain isn't turning anyone away from getting in as soon as possible to get up front for the show. I'm told security is increased for the night, and they're ready for a rowdy crowd.   Hard rockers Deepfall open the show for the already drunk crowd. They get a bigger reception to their cover of Journey's "Separate Ways," but the crowd isn't familiar with their original songs. While also being hard rock, they certainly aren't as wild as the other bands on the tour.    Next up is Nonpoint, a favorite of many, as they often play in the area. It's no surprise when the crowd begins their moshing, and things really pick up for the night. Despite being around quite a bit, I haven't s...

(Boxed Set Review) “1979 Boxed Set” by MOTORHEAD

When Madness To Creation thinks of Motorhead, we think of the words unrelenting, unleashed and an all-out sonic assault.  Motorhead is where the band would unite the punk world and the metal world as one.  Motorhead gathered some serious momentum in 1979 with the albums "Overkill" and "Bomber", and 40 years have passed, and this led to the superfan collection of Motorhead with their "1979 Boxed Set", which was released this past Friday. Every show would start off with Motorhead saying, "We are Motorhead and we play rock and roll".  Truer words were never spoken in the history of music.  Philthy Animal's drumming would influence a young Lars Ulrich to start up a band.  Their take no prisoners attitude also played a major influence in groups like Pantera, Alice In Chains, and Misfits.  Mo...

(Concert Review) NEW YEARS DAY Live at Wooly’s in Des Moines, Iowa (9/25/2019)

It was a rather peculiar night of music as New Years Day with special guests Ded and local band Switchblade Saturdays took the Wooly's stage in Des Moines on a Wednesday night.  New Years Day have a couple of songs that busted them on through, and provided a ton of support for Halestorm and In This Moment on several legs of tours this past year, yet it wasn't packed by any stretch of the imagination.  Note to Des Moines, please come out and support live music! Shoutout to Switchblade Saturdays for the set that they put on.  They also had Joey Vice of Motograter fame to help support their live show.  It was cool seeing the lead vocalist on stage for New Years Day set Instagramming the experience.  Local bands take note:  please support your local scene and the bands that you are sharing ...

Nathan Spades and Kyle Ort of DARK STATION Converses with Madness To Creation on “Heroes” and Mental Health Awareness

Editor's Note:  One of the best parts about this gig is getting to talk to brand new bands.  Granted, there's a side to me that likes talking to the who's who, but there's a whole another side to me that likes talking to bands/recording artists that are cutting their teeth so to speak.  Nathan Spades and Kyle Ort of Southern California rock band DARK STATION are the latter.  Dark Station have recently released their music video entitled "Heroes" and they sat down with Madness To Creation to discuss the video along with mental health awareness.  Fans can find Dark Station at the following locations: www.darkstationband.com www.facebook.com/wearedarkstation www.instagram.com/darkstationband Madness To Creation:  You've released "Heroes".  Take us into the song and what was the mo...

The Musician’s Tribune Vol. 35: “My Personal Spotify Playlist” by ZR. KING

Editor's Note:  New York City-based rock band, Zr. King, announce their high-adrenaline single, aptly titled, “Welcome to Bearizona,” to welcome their  upcoming album, Musically & Morally Bankrupt, due out May 17, 2019. Zr. King have left a big impression on the local scene, receiving support on BBox Radio, Radio Free Brooklyn, and playing at acclaimed venues in the Northeast. They will be celebrating the release on May 16, 2019 at Arlene’s Grocery. The band got their start in New York in 2012, when brothers Brandon and Griffin Lotti (formerly of rock act Social Hero) reinvented their line up along with Matthew Thompson and  Derek “D-Pain” Skyler. From 2016 on, D-Pain’s role has been filled by renowned NYC drummer Medley Shabazz, and the band have kept at fine-tuning their guitar-dr...
