(Concert Review) SKILLET Live at Diamond Ballroom in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (2/26/2020)

It was such a "legendary" night at a packed house at the Diamond Ballroom in Oklahoma City as Skillet with special guests From Ashes To New and Ledger brought a night of exciting rock and showmanship to Sooner country.  Skillet is currently on the "Victorious" tour and decided to give their drummer's band a shot with Ledger opening up the show.   Photo Credit for Ledger:  Ledger I didn't know what to expect when it came to Ledger.  I knew that they were pretty significant in the Christian rock genre, but they blew me away live!  I always dug Ledger's background vocals in Skillet as she added another dynamic to some of Skillet's mainstream rock hits.  Ledger definitely showcased a lot of charisma and confidence opening up and they did a phenomenal job warming up the crowd for Fro...

(Concert Review) BETH HART Live at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, United Kingdom (2/17/2020)

This was truly a double bill made in heaven.  Both artists I had always intended to see live but for various reasons had never been able to actually manage to do exactly that.  Kris Barras, the former MMA fighter turned blues music troubadour, would be playing acoustically as a tasty warmup to the enigmatic majesty of Beth Hart herself.  After being introduced to Beth's recent album release ”War In My Mind” I was keenly anticipating hearing the new songs performed as well as her back catalogue standards   However  once again the fickle hand of fate played its part-as due to an extended work shift that I could not avoid I arrived at the venue unfortunately too late to witness Kris Baras' support slot.I was however particularly thankful that Beth had not yet taken to the stage. The B...

(Concert Review) FALLING IN REVERSE Live at House of Blues in Cleveland, Ohio (2/18/2020)

It was an absolutely fucking amazing night as Falling In Reverse headlined "The Drug In Me Is Gold" tour with special guests Escape The Fate and The Word Alive.  It was a packed house, especially for a weeknight at the House of Blues in Cleveland, where the floor was completely sold out, with just a small smattering of balcony seats available for the show. It was a hyped night as Escape The Fate and The Word Alive definitely did their job by warming up the crowd for Falling In Reverse.  I've been really digging the song "Popular Monster" as of late, as that song has been really resonating with so many people and touching so many lives due to their take on mental health awareness.  Falling In Reverse started off with their songs "The Westerner" and "Goodbye Graceful" and in the middle of...

(Concert Review) ALTER BRIDGE with CLINT LOWERY live at The Apollo Theatre in Belvidere, Illinois (2/14/2020)

It was a chilly Valentine's Day evening in Belvidere, Illinois as Alter Bridge's Walk the Sky 2020 tour came through. Both couples and groups of singles made it their destination for the holiday evening, as the balcony was completely sold out, and with very little room to spare in the standing room only general admission section.   Rock group Deepfall opened up the evening's festivities. They had passed through the Apollo Theatre AC just months before, as the opening act on Hellyeah's latest tour. They played a similar group of songs, with their cover of Journey's "Separate Ways" being the crowd attention grabber of the set.   Up next was Clint Lowery, who, known primarily as the guitarist of metal band Sevendust, has been involved with numerous other side projects where ...

(Concert Review) SONS OF APOLLO Live at Gramercy Theater in New York, New York (2/6/2020)

They say talent begets talent. When you start with a core of extremely talented musicians they tend to work with likeminded and like-talented artists. This is especially true when it comes to the members of Sons Of Apollo. After recently releasing their sophomore album MMXX a few short weeks ago, the band went out for a short tour. I was lucky enough to catch the Sons of Apollo show at the lovely Gramercy Theater in NYC. Show openers Mass Extinction Event were a showcase of guitar sweeps and arpeggios not seen this side of Yngwie Malmsteen. More interestingly both guitarists play lefthanded.   Kicking off support was Tony MacAlpine. I have to say this was a particular highlight for me having never seeing him live before. And like SOA, Tony surrounds himself with some GREAT musici...

(Concert Review) KORN & BREAKING BENJAMIN Live at BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford, Illinois (2/6/2020)

It was a near sellout at the BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford, IL for Korn and Breaking Benjamin's 2020 Winter Tour. Rock group Bones UK opened the show for the already mostly full arena. They mentioned it was their biggest tour yet, in terms of venue size. I felt that their vibe would be better suited for a smaller venue, but it's nice that they were able to showcase themselves for so many new faces on this large tour. They put on a short set, which included a cover of David Bowie's "I'm Afraid of Americans."   Breaking Benjamin hit the stage next, opening their set with their hit "The Diary of Jane." I'd wager to say that Breaking Benjamin may be one of the easiest bands to sing along with, as nearly all of their songs have a catchy chorus. The entire arena seemed to agree w...

(Concert Review) URIAH HEEP Live at Club KD in Plzen, Czech Republic (1/30/2020)

It was a wild rocking night in Plzen, Czech Republic as Uriah Heep took the stage in front of a packed house.  It was amazing to see such a legendary band do it's thing on this night. The band sounded just as fresh as they did when "Easy Livin'" was at its peak.  The lights went off and the drummer went into a quick drum solo before the band kicked into "Grazed By Heaven".  This band has been around for 50 years and they still sound like they are at their peak. The organs and electric guitars blended together masterfully as the band kicked into "Too Scared To Run".  The people were raucous as shows in this part of Europe don't come around as often, therefore there was a deep sense of appreciation for the concert that sometimes other parts of Europe take for granted.  They closed off the ...

(Concert Review) CLUTCH Live at Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey (12/30/2019)

There are few certainties left in this world.. however the band Clutch just happens to be part of two of them. 1) They put on a great show for their audiences and 2) They usually play aspectacular end of the year show in NJ at the Starland Ballroom. Clutchmas this year was actually a 3 night event happening in three different states: NC, NJ and then finishing up in Philadelphia on New Year's Eve.Lucky for me that I was able to be there for this year's CLUTCHMAS concert in NJ. The night began for me with Damon Johnson, who by name I was not familiar with. However he was the singer and guitarist for the band 90's southern rock inspired Brother Cane who had some popularity with the tune "And Fools Shine On" which was amongst his short set. He also made mention of the fact that he was hon...

(Concert Review) RATT Live at Wellmont Theater in Montclair, New Jersey (12/20/2019)

It was a few days before Christmas and hair-metal legends RATT took the stage at the Wellmont Theater in Montclair, New Jersey. On the "In Your Direction" tour, Ratt has proven that they are not ready to slow down as the "Roaring 2020's decade" hits.  With Stephen Pearcy on vocals, Juan Croucier on bass, Jordan Ziff on lead guitars, Chris Sanders on guitars and Pete Holmes on drums, Ratt continues to prove that they are one of the main acts to see from this era of music. Ratt kicked it off with the classic "Wanted Man", which is off of their landmark 1984 album "Out of the Cellar".  The band immediately brought the energy as a cohesive unit.  I would say that Juan on bass is definitely the showman of the band as he uses his bass guitar like a weapon as he's attacking the stage.  Ratt c...
