(Concert Therapy Reviews): GREAT WHITE Live at Diamond Jo Casino in Northwood, Iowa (7/17/2021)

It's in the air.  Life is back to a relative normal.  Masks are off, social distancing is ceasing to exist and for an evening, life felt like it was before the Covid pandemic.  Legendary 80's rock band Great White took the stage at the Diamond Jo Casino in Northwood, Iowa this past Saturday. Honestly, I've never been to a show at a casino besides a Michael Jackson impersonator concert at the Stratosphere in Las Vegas.  It was a different vibe going through the lines of slot machines, blackjack tables and video poker machines to get to the Diamond Jo Casino Ballroom.  There was no opening act and Great White came in right as scheduled and didn't waste time by getting into their song "Desert Moon." The crowd was rocking and ready for a night of nostalgia with Great White in this intimate ...

(The Don’s Hit List with The Don & The Grizz Ep. 273): Anne Autumn of UPON WINGS

Contributor's Note:  Anne Autumn of Detroit, Michigan "opera/metal" band Upon Wings returns to The Don's Hit List with The Don & The Grizz for the 273rd episode via FAB Radio International.  On March 26th, Upon Wings released their single "Eternal Way", which features Ralf Scheepers of Primal Fear via Spotify, iTunes and Amazon. They also discuss the role Judas Priest and Geoff Tate of Queensryche played in influencing their music.  I immediately think of the operatic sounds of Tarja meeting the larger than life musicianship of Within Temptation.  Fans can check out Upon Wings on Facebook, Twitter and their official website.  Fans can find The Don's Hit List with The Don & The Grizz on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and their official website. Fans can check out the single "Et...

(Concert Review) QUEENSRYCHE live at Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey (2/15/2020)

The verdict is in, Queensryche  still rocks after all these years. After a tumultuous decade, they have entered 2020 with a renewed energy and vigor. This past Saturday night I experienced the new live stage show for this year’s Verdict tour. And I have to say I was most impressed. Opening support for the band on this run is NYC rockers Eve to Adam with direct support coming from guitarist extraordinaire, the one and only John 5.   Eve to Adam hit the stage with their high-energy brand of hard rock full force. I saw the crowd respond to them very positively. Though there was a faction who weren’t familiar with the band and their songs, they were very easy to get into. Their songs had good grooves with powerful vocals. Though their set was short, the crowd really got into the mat...

(Concert Review) TESLA with special guests VOICES OF EXTREME & BAD MARRIAGE Live at The Paramount in Huntington, New York (9/17/2019)

It was a wild night of hair-metal music and nostalgia as one of the most talented bands out of the genre, Tesla ripped through their brand of hair-metal at The Paramount in Huntington, New York.  Regional metal mainstays Voices of Extreme and Bad Marriage served as special guests on this night of music.  Boston's own Bad Marriage kicked off the raucous night of music. Bad Marriage is composed of Jon Paquin on vocals, Mike Fitz on guitar, Ian Haggerty on guitar, Todd Boisvert on bass, and Michael Delaney on drums.  The band did a great job with their boogie-woogie style of rock as they incorporated a lot of fun and swagger with dashes of sleaze into their music.  Along with their songs and stage presence, they did an exciting rendition of "Walkin' The Dog" by Aerosmith.  They will be ope...

Dan Tompkins of TesseracT Converses with Madness To Creation on “Sonder”, Neil DeGrasse Tyson and When He Truly Experienced “Sonder”

Editor's Note:  It was such a glorious night seeing an amazing band in TesseracT leave their audience awestruck at the Skyway Theater in Minneapolis with special guests Plini and Astronoid.  It literally felt like another dimension with the ominous ambiance and the lights, which instead of playing the same old generic rock songs in between sets, they left their audience in anticipation for roughly 20 minutes and showed why they deserved to headline.  Dan certainly has one of the best voices in metal which is a mix of Geoff Tate(formerly of Queensryche) and Maynard James Keenan of Tool(and A Perfect Circle), and after discussing "Sonder" and other topics with him, you can tell that he's a thinking man's musician.  In the meantime, fans can find TesseracT at the following locations: www.f...

Slaughter and Lynch Mob Keeps Fans “Up All Night and Moving” in Iowa!

Those that know me know that I love a good banger of a night of music, especially music that is the golden age for the millenial/Generation X generation.  Where the hair was big, the guitars were loud, the spandex was tight, and the music was even louder.  It was the music that people listened to in order to unwind after a tough week at work, problems with relationships, and that need to go on an escapade and leave their troubles and cares behind.  Recently, Slaughter with special guests Lynch Mob rocked the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa.  Lynch Mob was the direct support act to take the stage. It was great to see Oni Logan back with legendary guitarist George Lynch, Sean McNabb, and Jimmy D'Anda, who all make up Lynch Mob.  I will tell you this, seeing Logan's charismatic stage prese...

“The Omega” by Egonaut, doom rock!

In 2016, Swedish doom-rock technicians Egonaut reformed with a new vocalist in tow as Emil Kyrk joined Egonaut.  In November 2017, Egonaut returned with a vengeance with their latest offering entitled "The Omega". There is some material and feelings to take in with this album.  The album seems conceptual and dark with brooding emotions thrown into the mix.  Fans will immediately be hit in the chest after the anticipatory build-up with the track "Initium".  The intro of the track has the Hammond Organ incorporated with down-tuned guitars and a great rhythm section.  The unique thing about this opening track is that this is the only track on "The Omega" that has any sort of growling.  The vocals pack a punch when Emil sings "Show yourself to me".  Emil sings this with a purpose and with a c...
