(Madness To Creation Podcast Ep. 39): Nigel Glockler of SAXON

Editor's Note:  Nigel Glockler of legendary British metal band Saxon joins the Madness To Creation Podcast for the 39th episode. In this episode, Nigel talks about the release of "Inspirations", which provides "Saxon-ized" covers of famous classic rock songs such as "Stone Free" by Jimi Hendrix, "Paint It Black" by The Rolling Stones", "Speed King" by Deep Purple and "Immigrant Song" by Led Zeppelin. Nigel is a drummer that so many metalheads cite as a major influence in their drumming and the cool thing is that you wouldn't hear Nigel talk about it at all. Nigel talks about his legacy, how Cream, Deep Purple and The Rolling Stones influenced him and coping with the Covid-19 pandemic. The light is at the end of the tunnel folks, we are almost there to hopefully make this pandemic subsi...

(Album Review) “School of Hard Knocks” by BIFF BYFORD

On February 21st, legendary Saxon frontman Biff Byford released his first ever solo album entitled "School of Hard Knocks" via Silver Linings Music.  Based on interview with Madness To Creation a couple of years ago, we learned that Biff was quite the history buff.  Here is what we had to say in regards to "School of Hard Knocks": Depending on your level of now cultish interest in 70's and 80's Heavy Metal you might have missed Saxon amongst fellow Englishmen and household names, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.  However, Saxon had all the elements of a great British Heavy Metal Band; driving guitars, epic vocals, the occasional baroque element, big hair and theatrics.  Saxon really rocked though and could carry themselves on the weight of their songs, tales of Arthurian conquest and black-t...

DON JAMIESON Converses with Madness To Creation on “Denim and Laughter” and the Art of Comedy!

Editor's Note:  A few years back, I remember seeing very funny comedy Don Jamieson on VH1's "That Metal Show" featuring Jim Florentine and Eddie Trunk and thinking not only he's a very funny guy, but he is a metal aficionado.  On February 21st, Don Jamieson released "Denim and Laughter" with the help of Biff Byford of Saxon himself! Don recently wrapped up emceeing the Monsters of Rock Cruise and also emceed The Masquerade Rock Fest featuring Puddle of Mudd, Fuel and Sponge this past December in New York.  He will be on tour with Biff Byford of Saxon coming up.  In this interview with Madness To Creation, Don Jamieson discusses "Denim and Laughter", mental health awareness, and some amazing bands and albums that he loves!  Fans can find Don Jamieson at the following locations: www.faceb...

“Thunderbolt” by Saxon, like fine wine…

It takes a virtually unlimited amount of creative energy and spark to continue to pour albums out to the masses.  British heavy metal giants Saxon has that down to a fine science with their February 2nd release of their 22nd album "Thunderbolt" via Militia Guard. Based on speaking with the legendary Biff Byford, Biff really enjoys reading copious amounts of literature and the classics such as Greek mythology.  Biff's knowledge of Greek mythology, history, and the classics is clearly evident as Saxon implores such a creative way of crafting their songs from a lyrical standpoint in tracks such as the title track "Thunderbolt" and "Sons of Odin".  In those tracks, there tells those classic Greek mythology stories and they are written in such a way that they could be used in some sort of educ...

The Legendary Biff Byford of Saxon Converses with Madness To Creation on Memories with Motorhead, Judas Priest, Literature, and Thunderbolt!

Editor's Note:  It's certainly not every day that you get to sit down and discuss the amazing work and career with one of the legendary vocalists in classic metal history in Biff Byford of Saxon.  The conversation consisted of it sounding like two old friends were sitting down over coffee and discussing memories and their upcoming release entitled "Thunderbolt", which is to be released worldwide this Friday, February 2nd.  Saxon will be celebrating that release by providing direct support for Judas Priest on their upcoming tour!  Fans can find Saxon at the following locations: www.facebook.com/saxon www.saxon747.com Madness To Creation:  February 2nd, you are releasing "Thunderbolt", can you tell us about what fans can expect from it? Biff:  *laughs*, It's our 22nd studio album...

Madness To Creation Sounding Off: Never Forgetting Warped Tour Because of Amazing Vocalists, like Ashley Costello of New Years Day!

The second part of the "Looking Back on Warped Tour" series features New Years Day and Ashley Costello.  It is absolutely not every day where a frontperson simply captivates one's attention through their stage presence and vocals.  Ashley Costello of New Years Day certainly did that with her mesmerizing stage presence and her amazingly beautiful looks along with a versatile voice that sounded sweet and serene in one breath, and sounded shrilling in the next breath.  New Years Day had a crazy stage presence combining their gothic look, crazy stage antics, and the ability to hold the audience in the palm of their hand. I also saw New Years Day open up for Halestorm and Starset on the "Halloween Scream" tour, and while I was into them, some of the audience weren't into them, then again Iowa ...

“Beyond Spectra” by Saturn, taking it back!

On March 31st, 1977, Swedish rock/metal heavyweights Saturn will be releasing their latest offering entitled "Beyond Spectra". Did I say 1977?  Well, I'm wondering myself because I think Saturn took me on a time machine back to that time period where bellbottoms were hip and there becomes an increasing division in music between classic rock vs. disco.  Saturn seems to have been hanging out in the heavy metal parking lot after a blistering set from Judas Priest from the "Sad Wings" era with special guests UFO. Rebellion, intergalactic missions, and taking the listener through the 1970's metal is the mission that Saturn takes its listeners and fans on with "Beyond Spectra", which will be released via Rise Above Records.  This time capsule takes you to the opening cut entitled "Orbital Miss...
