(Concert Reviews): STYX Live at Five Flags Event Center in Dubuque, Iowa (7/3/2021)

How does one encapsulate a 40 plus year career into one evening?  Especially when that band has had historical accomplishments such as playing the pre-game show of Super Bowl XXXV, had a moon named after them by NASA themselves, and have sold millions of records, had chart topping singles and continue to release critically acclaimed albums such as their most recent effort "Crash of the Crown?"  I mean, what else needs to be said about Styx.  They continue to wow audiences and they delivered an amazing performance at the Five Flags Event Center in Dubuque, Iowa on Saturday, July 3rd. After I got through the gate, I stood there for a moment and just took in the atmosphere that we've all dearly missed due to the Covid pandemic.  It was like people took their problems and concerns and caste...

(Mental Health Conversations) Madness To Creation Podcast Season 2 Ep. 9: E Roland of COLLECTIVE SOUL + Plus We Talk About MTC’S Top 10 Favorite Collective Soul Songs

Editor's Note:  E Roland, the legendary vocalist of Collective Soul, sat down with Madness To Creation Podcast to discuss playing live, the excitement of getting to share the stage with Styx, his side project and how The Cars and Tom Petty influenced his music career.  One thing that I loved and appreciated about E Roland was how warm and engaging he is and how much of a family man he is.  Collective Soul dominated the 90's and early 2000's with their power guitar pop/rock, scintillating arrangements and heartfelt lyrics.  Their songs such as "Shine", "The World I Know", "Heavy", "December" and "Where The River Flows" resonated with millions of fans around the world and continue to do so to this day.  Over this weekend, they will be sharing the stage with the legendary classic rock ban...

(Mental Health Conversations) Madness To Creation Podcast Season 2 EP. 8: Lawrence Gowan of STYX

Editor's Note:  On June 18th, the legendary arena rock band Styx released yet another landmark album entitled "Crash of the Crown." The band wanted total creative freedom in this album and they got it. There is a sense of liberation and freedom in this record, and the classic harmonies, musicianship and passion that Styx exudes.  They have once again rose to the occasion with "Crash of the Crown."  Songs such as "Common Ground" inspires a call for unity while "Reveries" show some of their best musicianship since Lawrence Gowan joined Styx.  In this mental health conversation on the Madness To Creation Podcast, Lawrence Gowan of Styx talks about his jukebox, "Crash of the Crown", how Canada is handling the Covid pandemic and the soundtrack to his life.  Fans can find Styx on Facebook, T...

We Nerd Out Vol. 196: Legendary Drummer TODD SUCHERMAN of STYX on THE DON’S HIT LIST PODCAST

Contributor's Note:  The legendary drummer Todd Sucherman of Styx appears on 109th episode of The Don's Hit List Podcast via FAB Radio International with co-hosts The Don and The Grizz.  On May 2nd, Todd Sucherman released his solo album "Last Flight Home" via Aqua Pulse Records.  Recording sessions for "Last Flight Home" was co-produced by Sucherman and J.K. Harrison at various locales in California and Texas.  Over the course of its very concise and well-sequenced 42 minutes, Last Flight Home soars mightily, from the universal longing of the title track to the grandiose, twisted orchestral circus vibe of “Ad Lib Everything” (buttressed by a majestic string section) to the heartfelt surrender of “It’s Perfection” (featuring angelic background vocals from Todd’s esteemed better half, T...

(Concert Review) SHALLOW SIDE Live at Route 20 Outhouse in Sturtevant, Wisconsin (11/17/2019)

I arrive at the Rt. 20 Outhouse in Sturtevant, Wisconsin for Shallow Side with special guest Spoken after a two hour drive through freezing rain and heavy fog. The venue is very small, with more room for dining than standing in a pit. Opening local rock group DayRollers are working through the second half of their set. They have a small amount of crowd support on the dance floor, but the majority of the crowd is eating at their tables.   Up next is faith-based rock band Spoken. They’re considerably heavier in style than the other bands on the bill. The crowd that was in the pit has dispersed, moving back to tables to eat, or leaving altogether. Despite having no pit support, Spoken put on a fairly intense and emotionally-charged set. I really enjoyed their performance, but I do fe...

(Concert Review) COLLECTIVE SOUL with GIN BLOSSOMS Live at Sands Bethlehem Event Center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania (6/7/2019)

It was turn back the clock to the 90's night as 90's legends Collective Soul with special guests Gin Blossoms took the stage in front of a pretty packed house at the Sands Bethlehem Event Center on this evening.  This tour was put on in due part to Collective Soul's recent release of "Blood".  Gin Blossoms took the stage. Waves of familiarity and getting the sudden impulse to sing along took over the audience when Gin Blossoms broke into their classics such as "Follow You Down", "Found Out About You", and "Hey Jealousy".  You can tell that affected the band as the band received a collective burst of energy as the audience was singing along to their hits.  They had such a good energy about them and you can tell that 90's music is still alive and well to the audience.  Gin Blossoms did a so...
