(Concert Review) KORN & BREAKING BENJAMIN Live at BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford, Illinois (2/6/2020)

It was a near sellout at the BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford, IL for Korn and Breaking Benjamin's 2020 Winter Tour. Rock group Bones UK opened the show for the already mostly full arena. They mentioned it was their biggest tour yet, in terms of venue size. I felt that their vibe would be better suited for a smaller venue, but it's nice that they were able to showcase themselves for so many new faces on this large tour. They put on a short set, which included a cover of David Bowie's "I'm Afraid of Americans."   Breaking Benjamin hit the stage next, opening their set with their hit "The Diary of Jane." I'd wager to say that Breaking Benjamin may be one of the easiest bands to sing along with, as nearly all of their songs have a catchy chorus. The entire arena seemed to agree w...

(Concert Review) JINJER with THE BROWNING Live at Spicoli’s Reverb Live Music and Bar Arcade in Waterloo, Iowa (10/24/2019)

It was a mostly packed house at Spicoli's Reverb Live Music and Bar Arcade as Jinjer with special guests The Browning and Sumo Cyco took the stage on this beautiful fall evening.  We were scrambling to get into the venue, and the location was just right for a great metal show. We got in just in time to see Sumo Cyco do their thing, they had a nice cover of "B.Y.O.B." by System of a Down, and they were overall pretty decent live, they won us over with how they interacted with their fans.  My daughter got to meet them and they complimented my daughter on her ballerina dress, they treated her so well, and for that we will always remember Sumo Cyco. The Browning, out of Kansas City, were the next band to take the stage.  The Browning got the crowd moving, pulling off several circle p...

(Concert Review) “10th Anniversary of “Constellations” featuring AUGUST BURNS RED with special guests SILVERSTEIN and SILENT PLANET Live at the Skyway Theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota(7/2/2019)

Two days before the Independence Celebration in good ol' 'Murica and these three bands offered up an amazing night of a new kind of liberation in their music, the kind where one's soul is free from the shackles and chains that have been weighing them down, that freedom where you can check your burdens at the door and just enjoy some incredible music.  August Burns Red celebrated their 10th Anniversary of their landmark "Constellations" album at the Skyway Theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota with extremely special guests Silverstein and Silent Planet.  Los Angeles' Silent Planet was the first to take the stage. Talk about an incredibly emotional performance.  I must confess that when I first saw them at the Vans Warped Tour in either 2017 or 2018, I wasn't sure how to take them.  Silent Pl...

“1711” by Katastrophes Tomb, raw bludgeoning power!

After recently seeing their set when they opening for The Acacia Strain during their one-off show before embarking on the Vans Warped Tour, I became further intrigued with this band.  It was an intense live show that was highly engaging for the packed house at the Vaudeville Mews.  This band is known as Katastrophes Tomb, and on July 21st, they have released their EP entitled "1711" via Reverb Nation, Bandcamp, and SoundCloud. Katastrophes Tomb is composed of Vincent Venn on vocals, Taylor Soloman on drums, Brian Lundy on guitars, Curtis Coleone on bass, and Joe Youngbear on guitars.  This year alone, Katastrophes Tomb has shared the stage with the likes of the aforementioned The Acacia Strain, Flaw, Psychostick, Motograter, Mushroomhead, Madame Mayhem, and American Head Charge.  They a...
