(Album Review) “Fragrance” by LOBBY

Out Lyon, France comes a band who is quite ambitious and is ready to take over the world of dark synthpop while offering a reimagination of a post-Joy Division world, and that band is LOBBY.  LOBBY recently released their debut album entitled "Fragrance" via Solange endormie Records. LOBBY is composed of Timothy Roze Des Ordons(singer), Tom Dejeans(bass), Lino Etchegaray(guitar), and Nab Boudareau(synths).  They offer a nice mixture of dark synthpop, Cold Wave(think dark version of 80's New Wave that was so famous), with touches of shoegaze in their music. The album IMMEDIATELY grabbed our attention with a thick and groovy bassline with the title track of the album.  Tom definitely carries that bassline as we will find he does in a lot of songs with the title track.  We hear the synths i...

SOUND OF A SMIRK Converses with Evan of Madness To Creation on the New York Scene!

Contributor's Note:  To call Sound of a Smirk Emo Revival music is to discredit their originality.  They seem to be able to breath new life into the music I was listening to in the early 2000s.  With their recent move to New York, I feel that it's only a matter of time before we're hearing about them all the time.  Fans can find Sound of a Smirk at the following locations: www.facebook.com/theSoundofaSmirk www.SoundofaSmirk.com How did Sound of a Smirk come to be?  How did you guys meet? Sound of a Smirk was originally an incarnation of Jesse’s as a name for the solo project that he looked to expand. He chose a moniker rather than his own name in hopes and expectations of growing the project to a full band setting. All the other members joined the band slowly but surely through...

Jorgen Munkeby of Shining Gets “Animalistic” with Madness To Creation in Latest Conversation!

Editor's Note:  Norway's Shining has received a ton of attention for their seemingly sudden departure of their "blackjazz" movement and transitioned into this total party garage rock band.  Their latest album "Animal", has received a lot of mixed reviews, but people have said that they had the album grow on them!  Fans can find Shining at the following locations: www.facebook.com/shiningnorway www.shining.no www.instagram.com/shiningnorway www.twitter.com/SHININGofficial Madness To Creation:  What were some influences in regards to having this party metal type of record? Jorgen:  I've always been listening to lots of music, so in this king of a transition period you can imagine that I've been through a lot of references! But a short list could be Muse, Gojira, Ghost, Biff...

Madness To Creation’s A-Z Throwback Reviews: Action Action!

Out of the ashes of The Reunion Show, Diffuser, and Count The Stars came a band out of Long Island, New York known as Action Action.  Action Action was composed of Adam Manning, Dan Leo, Mark Thomas Kluepfel, and Clarke Foley.  They saw moderate success via Victory Records from 2004 to 2010, which saw one of their songs appear on the video game NCAA Baseball 2006 and another song receive commercial placement in a Gillette advertisement. In 2004, Action Action released their debut record entitled "Don't Cut Your Fabric To This Year's Fashion".  It was produced by William Wittman, who is known for his work with Cyndi Lauper.  The album drew comparisons to The Psychedelic Furs and Echo & The Bunnymen.  Because of MySpace, Action Action would see moderate success thanks to the success of ...

Madness To Creation’s A to Z Reviews: Featuring The Academy Is…

It was 2003 in Chicago, Illinois and there was a band that due to the discovery by Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy came a band that seemed to be jet propelled to take the throne in the pop-punk/emo world and that band is known as The Academy Is.  It was at the time five members led by William Beckett on vocals, Mike Carden on guitars/vocals, Adam Siska on bass/vocals, A.J. LaTrace on guitars/vocals, and Michael DelPrincipe on drums. In 2004, The Academy Is released their debut EP entitled "The Academy".  It received immediate regional success due to the pop hooks and infectious arrangements and Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy immediately took notice, and The Academy Is was immediately signed to Fueled By Ramen Records.  They went to Florida and tapped producer James Paul Wisner, who has worked with...
