(The Don’s Hit List with The Don & The Grizz Ep. 164): RYAN HAMILTON & THE HARLEQUIN GHOSTS

Contributor's Note:  Ryan Hamilton of Ryan Hamilton & The Harlequin Ghosts appeared on the 164th episode of The Don's Hit List with The Don & The Grizz via FAB Radio International.  They start off this episode by sharing their mutual love and admiration for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and how Tom Petty has influenced Ryan's career.  This transatlantic group has released their album "Nowhere To Go But Everywhere" via Wicked Cool Records and it's currently making some noise on the charts in the United Kingdom.  The charts that it has landed on include #7 Indie Album Breakers, #10 Record Store, #22 Independent Albums and #82 Overall Albums.  The album has received a ton of praise from the likes of Frank Turner, Clem Burke, Benmont Tench and Drew Carey himself.  The album has...

(Mental Health Conversations): Clay Rose of GASOLINE LOLLIPOPS

Editor's Note: “For so long I thought we had to have a genre,” says frontman/songwriter/visionary Clay Rose. “At first it was a cow-punk band, then I needed a rock band, then a folk rock band, then I needed a country band, then I needed an Americana band. But I guess coloring inside the lines is not in my cards.” Bully for that. Outside the lines is where things get interesting. It’s a necessary evil to liken an artist to a better-known commodity, so how about the Jayhawks (with balls) and Nick Drake? Tom Petty and Leonard Cohen meeting for coffee. James McMurtry remaking the Black Crowes in his own image. A side-salad of Muscle Shoals with a tangy dash of Stax. Yadda yadda. Short answer, the Gas Pops sound like the United States of America.  Yesterday, the Gasoline Lollipops released t...

(Concert Review) GOO GOO DOLLS and TRAIN Live at Musikfest at Wind Creek Steel Stage in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania (8/6/2019)

It was a fantastic night at Musikfest 2019 as pop/rock giants Goo Goo Dolls with Train took the Wind Creek Steel Stage in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on August 6th!  People sang loudly to the hits, the ladies screamed over the crooning of Pat Monahan of Train and over the heartfelt singing of Johnny Rzeznik of Goo Goo Dolls.  It was just a memorable night that I won't soon forget. After Allen Stone took the stage, it was time for Train.  Train is kind of known for their campfire, bubbly fun songs, but they also have some heartfelt songs and Pat Monahan and Train have achieved a whole new fanbase when their Led Zeppelin covers went viral on YouTube.  This was in conjunction with the "Play That Song" tour and also Train supporting their latest record entitled "a girl a bottle a boat".  Train ...

Will Turpin of Collective Soul Converses with Madness To Creation on “Serengeti Drivers” “Biking in Des Moines”, and “The Rock & Roll Express Tour”

Editor's Note:  When one thinks of 1990's rock, the band Collective Soul immediately comes to mind.  They wrote songs that captured the imagination and hearts of millions of fans around the world.  I remember that it seemed like every time that I turned on the radio either "Shine", "December", or "The World I Know" would be ingrained into my ears.  The melodies were soulful, the guitars packed enough punch to be able to cross over into hard rock platforms, and the lyrics were meaningful.  This was Collective Soul in a nutshell.  Fast forward 24 years later and guitarist Will Turpin released his solo album entitled "Serengeti Drivers" and Collective Soul will be embarking on the The Rock & Roll Express tour with 3 Doors Down and Soul Asylum.  In the meantime, fans can check out Will Tur...

“Left To Burn” by Matthew Carroll great guitar rock for you!

On February 1st, Birmingham, Alabama's own Matthew Carroll self-released his album entitled "Left To Burn".  This album really showcases what a professional project this is and the process that Matthew Carroll went through in the creation of "Left To Burn". Matthew Carroll saw what was missing from a lot of today's mainstream music, and that is the music that mixes excellent arrangements along the lines of groups like Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Vertical Horizon, and Fastball with a mix of today's indie rock songwriting abilities.  The songs mix desperation in songs such as the opener entitled "Next One On Her List", with some tongue-in-cheek sarcasm in the song "She Wants Me For My Body", in which the choruses are raucous and infectious all rolled into one. The horns and guitar h...

“Quinceanera” by Vendetta Red, unique arrangements!

Sometimes when I think of arrangements, I think of HGTV, you know where the snarky person gripes because the countertops aren't granite or that the master bedroom isn't the size of a three bedroom apartment.  I also think of many fabrics many arrangements to try to make that room full of uniqueness and have a certain amount of flair and pizzazz.  Also, have you also tried to put a few brushstrokes too much to add that color and it sticks out too much, or add that piece of furniture in a room and it sticks out too much instead of blend in with the design.  That's kind of what you get with Vendetta Red's April 13th release of "Quinceanera", which is being released via Cleopatra Records. Case in point, I love the arrangements and soulful melodies of the opening track entitled "Swim", the arr...

Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown Reflects on Tom Petty and a Gift from Billy Gibbons with Madness To Creation!

Editor's Note:  It was a great time sitting down with Tyler Bryant of Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown to discuss their new album, their music video for "Heartland" and some interesting memories with several classic rock legends!  I predict that this band will explode in 2018 just like Greta Van Fleet did this year! Many different topics were discussed during this interview!  Check out Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown at the following locations: www.facebook.com/tylerbryantandtheshakedown www.tylerbryantandtheshakedown.com Madness To Creation:  Nashville is a big-time mecca for music and entertainment in general, up there with Los Angeles and Austin, Texas in terms of music.  How does Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown stick out in the Nashville scene? Tyler:  There’s so much mus...

Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown, Rock Is Back!

I am loving this new rock movement where it is simply as raw as a slaughterhouse, as bloody as a stuck pig, and where it is about the rock!  Bands like Greta Van Fleet and Royal Blood immediately come to mind, now add Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown to the list.  The band that opened for AC/DC on the "Rock Or Bust" world tour in 2013 to also sharing the stage with the likes of Aerosmith, ZZTop, Deep Purple, Guns 'N' Roses, and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers have released their self-titled record via Snakefarm/Spinefarm Records. The guitar grooves and the harmonies are raw and chocked full of soul upon immediate listen with the track entitled "Heartland".  This is a banged up way of opening up the record!  It pays homage to their hometown of Nashville while showcasing the throwback har...
